RINDGE, N.H. (February 20, 2018) – Freshman forward Nicole Amato (Billerica, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team has been named New England Women’s Hockey Alliance Player and Rookie of the Week for the week ending on Feb. 18, as announced on Tuesday by the NEWHA.

Amato rattled off 11 points over the weekend, as the Ravens swept a two-game series from Post on home ice. On Friday night, she tallied a hat trick and added an assist for four points in a 9-0 shutout of the Eagles. On Saturday afternoon, she followed up by matching the program record with seven points on two goals and five assists in a 10-1 victory. The five assists matched a program single-game record, and her first goal on Saturday was the 18th of her career, which established a new school single-season high-water mark.

On the season, Amato has played in all 27 of the team’s games and leads the squad in scoring with 37 points on 19 goals and 18 assists. The 37 points has matched the school single-season scoring record as well. Along the way, Amato has tallied five power-play goals and four game-winning goals, and has attempted 108 shots on goal.

It marked the second time this season Amato has taken home NEWHA Player of the Week accolades, as she was previously honored for the week ending on Dec. 10. It also marked her third selection as the NEWHA Rookie of the Week, an honor she previously earned for the weeks ending on Jan. 14 and Nov. 12.

The Ravens (14-11-2) return to the ice on Wednesday, Feb. 21, when they host Saint Michael’s in the first round of the NEWHA Open Tournament. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon.
