WINCHENDON, Mass. (January 13, 2017) – The beneficiary of a turnover in the offensive end, senior forward Marisa Ketterman (Palmer, Alaska) picked the top-right corner early in the second period on Friday night to break a 2-2 tie and give the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team a 3-2 lead. In the end, it would turn out to be the final goal of the night, and stood as the difference, in a 3-2 win over Salve Regina in New England Hockey Conference play at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 9-4-1 (5-3-0 NEHC), while Salve Regina falls to 0-11-1 (0-6-1 NEHC).

Franklin Pierce opened the scoring on Friday night with a power-play goal just after the midpoint of the first period. Senior forward Alysha Raimo (Fitchburg, Mass.) had the initial shot on the play, putting the puck towards the net from the right circle. The shot was knocked down by the defense, but immediately corralled by junior forward Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn.) in the slot. Brolsma had no clear shot facing away from the net, so she dished off to the left-wing circle to wide open senior forward Michelle Holmes (Goffstown, N.H.). Holmes quickly one-timed her 10th goal of the season into the all-but empty net at the 10:03 mark.

Salve Regina had an answer, just 2:01 later, capitalizing on a Franklin Pierce turnover. Senior defenseman Amanda Cronin snapped home her team-leading sixth goal of the campaign from the slot at 12:04, unassisted, to even the game at 1-1.

Franklin Pierce reclaimed the lead heading into the first intermission, with a goal with one minute to play in the period. Salve Regina turned the puck over at the blue line, with Brolsma intercepting an attempted breakout pass. Brolsma got the puck to Holmes, who worked it to freshman forward Alli Sugar (Canton, Conn.) in the left-wing circle. Sugar salted away her second goal of the year from there, at the 19:00 mark.

Salve Regina needed just 84 seconds in the second period to cash in a power-play goal and make it a 2-2 game. Sophomore forward Taylor Chisholm led the rush into the offensive zone on the right side and took a shot from the top of the right circle. The shot was blocked by the defense, and the defender had a chance to control the puck, but immediately turned it back over to Chisholm near the faceoff dot. Chisholm used her speed to create a partial break around the outside and finished her fourth of the season inside the right post at the 1:24 mark.

Ketterman would find the eventual game-winner -- and the game's final goal -- 1:36 later, at the 3:00 mark. The Seahawks turned the puck over deep in their own end, gifting Ketterman possession in the right circle. With the puck and time to shoot, Ketterman did not miss her spot, picking the top-right corner, over the glove of Salve Regina sophomore goaltender Jennifer O'Connell, to give the Ravens a 3-2 lead. Ketterman's seventh goal of the season was unassisted.

The remainder of the second period and the entirety of the third would go without further scoring, as the Ravens chalked up the 3-2 victory. Things got dicey down the stretch for the crimson and grey, as Brolsma took a checking penalty at 18:56, which granted Salve Regina a 6-on-4 manpower advantage after pulling O'Connell for the extra attacker. The Seahawks even managed a 2-on-1 off a defensive miscue in the final 10 seconds. Freshman defenseman Delaney Guimont (Bedford, N.H.) was the lone Raven back and would take a penalty on the play for hauling down an attacker, but effectively preserved the lead by preventing a clean shot on the play.

Senior goaltender Shannon O'Neil (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished with 23 saves against 25 shots on goal to pick up the win (8-3-1) in the crease for Franklin Pierce. O'Connell (0-11-1) stopped 35 of 38 shots and suffered the loss for Salve Regina.

The Ravens return to the ice on Tuesday, Jan. 17, when they remain home to host Post in a non-conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
