Baker Nets Pair as Women’s Ice Hockey Stifles Manhattanville, 4-0

Doucette, Harron notch two points each

WINCHENDON, Mass. (February 13, 2016) – Senior forward Karsyn Baker (Detroit, Mich.) scored the only goal the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team would need 12:08 into the first period on Saturday night at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. She would later add another goal as well, leading the way in Franklin Pierce's 4-0 win over Manhattanville in New England Hockey Conference play.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 15-6-1 (9-6-0 NEHC), while Manhattanville falls to 8-15-0 (6-9-0 NEHC).

Baker struck for the first of two first-period goals for the Ravens at the 12:08 mark, as she entered the offensive zone on the left-wing side, cut towards the slot from the left circle and slipped a wrist shot inside the right post. Senior forward Colleen Doucette (Wakefield, Mass.) and senior defenseman Samantha Bureau (Ottawa, Ontario) had the assists on Baker's 13th goal of the season.

The Ravens made it 2-0 late in the frame, at the 19:42 mark. Sophomore forward Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn.) blasted a shot wide to the right from the right-wing circle. The rebound off the end boards came out on the other side of the net for waiting junior forward Michelle Holmes (Goffstown, N.H.), who banged home the rebound at the left post. Senior forward Bryana Harron (Woburn, Mass.) added an assist as well on Holmes' team-leading 15th goal of the campaign.

The lone goal of the second period came in a 4-on-4 situation at the 11:34 mark. Junior defenseman Katie Flynn (Sandwich, Mass.) forced a turnover in the offensive end and knocked the puck loose to Harron, who quickly put away her 12th goal of the year from the slot.

Franklin Pierce capped the scoring at the 14:33 mark of the third period to create the 4-0 final. Sophomore defenseman Erin Pengeroth (Acton, Mass.) would pick up her first career point on the play, as she took the initial shot from the point. The shot was turned aside by Manhattanville freshman goaltender Rose Pijaca, but Baker was on the scene to stuff home the rebound at the right post for her second goal of the game. Doucette picked up her second assist of the night on the play as well.

Junior netminder Shannon O'Neil (Tewksbury, Mass.) stopped all 18 shots on her goal to pick up the win (8-4-1) in net for Franklin Pierce and record both her third shutout of the season and the sixth of her career in the process. Pijaca (4-6-0) made 36 saves against 40 shots in the crease for Manhattanville.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday, Feb. 19, when they remain home to host Massachusetts Boston. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
