Second-Period Power Plays Send Women’s Ice Hockey on Way to 4-0 Win at William Smith

Four Ravens score as team opens second half with victory

GENEVA, N.Y. (January 8, 2016) – Senior forward Karsyn Baker (Detroit, Mich.) had a goal and two assists, while junior forward Michelle Holmes (Goffstown, N.H.) scored the game-winning goal on Friday afternoon at The Cooler, as the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team opened the second half of the season with a 4-0, non-conference win on the road at William Smith. Junior goaltender Noelle White (Corona, Calif.) locked things down at the other end of the ice with a 28-save shutout.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 8-2-1 coming out of the semester break, while William Smith falls to 4-6-2. The two teams will meet again on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. to wrap up the weekend series.

After the first period went scoreless on Friday, the Ravens got a pair of power-play goals in the second frame to take control of the contest. Holmes struck for the eventual game-winner and her eighth goal of the season at the 5:11 mark of the middle stanza, finishing a back-door one-timer at the left post off of a feed across the ice from sophomore forward Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn.), while junior forward Marisa Ketterman (Palmer, Alaska) picked up an assist as well. Just over 10 minutes later, senior forward Bryana Harron (Woburn, Mass.) picked up her eighth of the campaign, as she redirected home a feed from Baker, with junior forward Alysha Raimo (Fitchburg, Mass.) adding the second assist at 15:45.

Franklin Pierce tacked on a pair of insurance markers in the first half of the third period to create the 4-0 final. Just 99 seconds into the period, Baker split the defense and put a shot in low on the blocker side for her eighth of the campaign as well, off of assists from Raimo and senior forward Colleen Doucette (Wakefield, Mass.).

Finally on Friday, it was a special moment for senior defenseman Michelle Stock (Austin, Texas) at 8:39 of the third, as she put home her first goal since Feb. 8, 2013. Off of assists from senior defenseman Hayley Arnold (Barre, Vt.) and Baker, Stock took a shot from the point. William Smith sophomore goaltender Laurel Brown got a piece of the shot with her pad, but the puck wound up deflecting into the goal for Stock's first of the season anyway.

For White (4-0-0), the 28-save shutout was her second of the season, as well as the eighth of her career. At the other end of the ice, Brown (0-2-0) piled up 40 saves against 44 shots on goal, but took the loss for William Smith anyway.
