Harron, Ketterman Notch Three Points Each as Women’s Ice Hockey Completes Weekend Sweep at SUNY Canton, 4-1

Ravens outshoot Roos 44-11

Harron Harron had her second three-point outing of the season on Saturday afternoon at SUNY Canton.

CANTON, N.Y. (December 13, 2014) – Junior forward Bryana Harron (Woburn, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal and dished out two assists, while sophomore forward Marisa Ketterman (Palmer, Alaska) had a goal and two assists as well on Saturday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team picked up a 4-1 road win over SUNY Canton in non-conference play at Roos House. Freshman forward Margret Troiano scored the lone goal in defeat for SUNY Canton, while the Ravens piled up a 44-11 edge in shots on goal on the afternoon.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 9-2-1 (5-1-0 ECAC East), while SUNY Canton falls to 1-11-1. The win allows the Ravens to complete a two-game weekend sweep on the road at SUNY Canton and closed out the first semester for both teams.

Much of the first period went scoreless before Franklin Pierce broke the ice at the 18:09 mark. Harron brought the puck towards the outside of the let-wing circle and then slipped a pass across the slot to Ketterman. The latter one-timed home her team-leading ninth goal of the season from in front of the right post to give the Ravens a lead they would never relinquish.

On the other side of the intermission, Harron struck for her second of the campaign at 1:56 of the second period. Ketterman took the initial shot on the play, but was turned aside by SUNY Canton freshman goaltender Rebecca DiNardo. The rebound came on the right-wing side to Harron, who snapped the eventual game-winning goal over DiNardo's glove. Sophomore forward Lanie Matsumoto (Fort Collins, Colo.) picked up the other assist on the play.

SUNY Canton scored its lone goal of the afternoon at the 9:20 mark on Troiano's team-leading fifth goal of the year, unassisted. Troiano gained possession in the neutral zone and muscled her way around a defender. She deked both right and left before returning to her right to slip her shot between the post and the glove hand of Franklin Pierce sophomore goaltender Shannon O'Neil (Tewksbury, Mass.).

The Ravens reclaimed the two-goal lead at 3-1 heading into the second intermission with a shorthanded tally at 16:38. Junior defenseman Sarah Sheils (Pittsburgh, Pa.) did all the work herself, after carrying the puck into the zone and shedding her defenseman. Sheils circled behind the net and picked the top-left corner from a tough angle for her third score of the season.

Franklin Pierce added the lone goal of the final stanza to create the 4-1 final. Ketterman and Harron would each cap their three-point outings by picking up the helpers on the second of the season for junior forward Francesca Paciello (Clinton, N.Y.) at the 16:33 mark. Again, Ketterman had the initial shot on the play, which was saved by DiNardo, and Paciello immediately converted on the rebound to cap the scoring. For Ketterman, her second assist of the day finished off a five-point weekend (3-2-5).

O'Neil was tested only 11 times and made 10 saves to pick up the win (3-2-1) in the crease for Franklin Pierce. Meanwhile, DiNardo piled up 40 saves -- for the third time this year -- and was still stuck with the loss (1-7-0) between the pipes for SUNY Canton.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday, Jan. 9, when they return home to host William Smith in a non-conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon.
