Ketterman, Baker, Doucette Pile Up Points in Women’s Ice Hockey’s 6-1 Win Over Sacred Heart

Nine Ravens tally at least one point

Ketterman Ketterman had her second multiple-goal game of the season on Friday night against Sacred Heart.

WINCHENDON, Mass. (December 5, 2014) – Sophomore forward Marisa Ketterman (Palmer, Alaska) scored twice and added an assist as one of three Ravens to tally three points, as the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team rolled to a 6-1 win over Sacred Heart in non-conference play on Friday night at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Senior forward Alex Davis had the lone goal in defeat for Sacred Heart.

With the win, Franklin pierce improves to 7-1-1 (5-1-0 ECAC East), extends its program-record unbeaten streak to eight games (7-0-1) and is unbeaten in its last 17 games on home ice (16-0-1). With the loss, Sacred Heart falls to 2-5-0.

Junior forward Karsyn Baker (Detroit, Mich.) also had two goals and an assist, while junior forward Colleen Doucette (Wakefield, Mass.) had a goal and two assists, as each joined Ketterman in posting three points on the night. Both figured in on the game's first goal, just 32 seconds into the proceedings. The play began at the left point with junior defenseman Hayley Arnold (Barre, Vt.), who sent the puck to Doucette in the left-wing corner. Doucette centered for Baker, whose initial shot from the slot was saved, but she was later able to finish off her own rebound for her fourth goal of the season.

Franklin Pierce would make it 2-0 before the first intermission, on Ketterman's first of the night at the 17:39 mark. Freshman forward Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn.) chipped the puck up the left-wing boards through the neutral zone, and junior forward Haylea Barbieri (Plainville, Mass.) gained control as she came across the blue line into the attacking end. At the top of the left circle, Barbieri deked her defender to create a passing lane and fed the puck down the slot to Ketterman, who jammed home her team-leading fifth goal of the campaign at the right post.

The Ravens would strike three times in the middle stanza to balloon the lead to 5-0, though all three goals came in the final five minutes of the period. First, at the 15:34 mark, Baker and junior forward Francesca Paciello (Clinton, N.Y.) worked the puck to Doucette at the bottom of the right-wing circle as time expired on a Franklin Pierce power play. Sacred Heart junior goaltender Amanda Fontaine got a piece of the shot by Doucette and nearly made the save, but the puck wound up in the net for Doucette's fourth of the season.

Just 2:06 later, Ketterman made a one-woman pilgrimage to Dangle City, as she did all the work on herself on her second goal of the night. She dispossessed a Sacred Heart player of the puck inside her own blue line and immediately deked around the Pioneer defenseman. This left Ketterman with the puck at her own blue line and nothing but 114 feet of open ice between her and Fontaine in front of the Sacred Heart goal. When Ketterman got to the slot, she deked again, drawing Fontaine out of position before going to the forehand to put the puck in the net.

Sophomore forward Lanie Matsumoto (Fort Collins, Colo.) capped the middle frame's scoring with her fourth goal of the year at the 19:28 mark. Sophomore defenseman Katie Flynn (Sandwich, Mass.) wound and blasted a shot from the left point. Matsumoto was stationed in the slot and redirected the puck en route to beat Fontaine.

The Ravens pushed the lead as high as 6-0, with Baker's second of the game at the 4:56 mark of the third period. Ketterman and Doucette picked up the helpers as Baker put the shot away from the slot, on the edge of the right-wing circle.

Sacred Heart got on the board to create the 6-1 final with a power-play marker at the 11:16 mark. Senior forwards Casey Stathopoulos and Alanna Woodford worked the puck to Davis at the left point. The latter wound and drove a slapshot from there, which found its way through traffic and to the back of the net for Davis' first goal of the year.

Sophomore goaltender Noelle White (Corona, Calif.) finished with 25 saves against 26 shots to pick up the win (5-0-0) in the crease for Franklin Pierce. Fontaine made 33 saves against 39 shots and suffered the loss (1-5-0) in net for Sacred Heart.

The Ravens return to the ice on Saturday, Dec. 6, when they make the return trip to Sacred Heart to complete the weekend home-and-home series. Opening faceoff is set for 6 p.m. at Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton, Conn. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Friday, Jan. 9 against William Smith at 7:30 p.m.
