Ketterman adds pair of helpers

WINCHENDON, Mass. (November 29, 2014) – Sophomore forward Lanie Matsumoto (Fort Collins, Colo.) scored twice and junior forward Bryana Harron (Woburn, Mass.) dished out three assists on Saturday night to lead the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team to a 4-0 win over Buffalo State in non-conference play at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Sophomore goaltender Noelle White (Corona, Calif.) had 28 saves to post the shutout.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 6-1-0 (5-1-0 ECAC East) and has now won six in a row -- matching the program record -- after a season-opening loss at Saint Anselm. Buffalo State falls to 5-3-1 (5-1-0 ECAC West) with the loss. The two teams will meet again on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena to conclude the two-game weekend series.

Franklin Pierce controlled play through much of the first two periods, as it built a 3-0 lead, which included the only goal of the opening stanza. Freshman forward Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn.) had the puck on the left-wing side and sent a pass to junior defenseman Hayley Arnold (Barre, Vt.) at the point. Arnold drove a shot from there through traffic, which found the back of the net for her first goal of the season at 17:44, while sophomore forward Marisa Ketterman (Palmer, Alaska) added an assist as well. For Brolsma, the helper ran her scoring streak to six games (4-6-10).

The Ravens piled up a 15-8 shots advantage in the second frame while adding two more goals. At the 2:56 mark, Matsumoto stuffed home her second goal of the season out front, while junior forward Francesca Paciello (Clinton, N.Y.) and Harron picked up the assists. Matsumoto scored her second goal of the night just under 10 minutes later, at the 12:36 mark. As Matsumoto cut down the slot towards the goal, the puck met her at the hash marks, via a feed from the right-wing side. Matsumoto deked the goalie and put the puck away for her third of the season, off assists from junior defenseman Sarah Sheils (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Harron.

Buffalo State turned the tables and came out firing on all cylinders in the third period, racking up a 14-4 edge in shots, and laying siege to White's goal. However, it would be the Ravens who found the only goal of the final 20 minutes.

The Franklin Pierce power play, which entered the night at just 2-for-24 on the season (8.3%), struck at 9:39 to cap the scoring and create the 4-0 final. With the puck in the left-wing circle, Ketterman slipped a pass across to Sheils in the right-wing circle. The latter immediately threw a backhander towards the net and appeared visibly surprised when the puck found the top-right corner for her second goal of the campaign. Harron added her third assist of the night on the play as well. For Harron, it was her first career three-point game.

White stopped all 14 shots on her goal in a busy third period, as well as all 28 shots in the game, to pick up the win (4-0-0) and her third shutout of the season (fifth of her career). Freshman Justine Silva started in goal, made six saves against seven shots in the first period and ultimately took the loss (5-2-1) for Buffalo State. Silva departed after the first period and fellow freshman Megan Sackett made 16 saves against 19 shots over the final 40 minutes for the Bengals.
