RYE, N.Y. (February 14, 2015) – Sophomore forward Nina Danforth (Stratford, Conn.) scored the eventual game-winning goal just after the midway point of the second period on Saturday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team built up a 3-0 lead and held on for a 3-2 win on the road over Manhattanville in ECAC East play at Playland Ice Casino. Senior forwards Michele Meggiolaro and Alla Traun notched a goal and an assist each in defeat for Manhattanville.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 17-5-1 (11-4-0 ECAC East), while Manhattanville falls to 9-9-5 (7-5-3 ECAC East).

Franklin Pierce struck twice in the opening frame to take a lead it would hold the rest of the way. Junior forward Bryana Harron (Woburn, Mass.) opened the scoring just 1:47 into the proceedings, with her fifth goal of the season. Sophomore defenseman Katie Flynn (East Sandwich, Mass.) and sophomore forward Marisa Ketterman (Palmer, Alaska) picked up the assists on the play. Junior defenseman Hayley Arnold (Barre, Vt.) made it 2-0 with her fourth of the campaign at 12:53, off of an assist from fellow junior defenseman Samantha Bureau (Ottawa, Ontario).

The Ravens pushed the lead as high as 3-0 with a goal at the 12:14 mark of the middle stanza. Danforth put home her second goal of the year -- both game-winning goals -- while sophomore forward Lanie Matsumoto (Fort Collins, Colo.) and Flynn picked up the assists.

Manhattanville set about an attempt at a third-period rally, but ultimately came up short. Meggiolaro came up with her team-leading 10th goal of the season at the 8:50 mark, as she finished off assists from senior forwards Sydney Asselstine and Alla Traun. The Valiants pulled the goaltender in favor of an extra attacker with 1:47 to go in a final attempt to close the gap. They would get one goal closer, on the eighth of the season for Traun, but were unable to find the equalizer. Meggiolaro and senior defenseman Rachael Morrison provided the assists.

Sophomore goaltender Shannon O'Neil (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished with 22 saves against 24 shots to pick up the win (7-3-1) in goal for Franklin Pierce. Senior Kristen Shaughnessy stopped 17 of 20 shots and took the loss (6-6-3) between the pipes for Manhattanville.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday, Feb. 20, when they travel to Massachusetts Boston for an ECAC East contest. Opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m. at The Beacons Ice Arena in Boston, Mass.
