White posts fourth shutout of season

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (January 24, 2015) – Junior forward Karsyn Baker (Detroit, Mich.) scored twice, including the game-winning goal, and her team held a dominant, 40-17, edge in shots on Saturday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team posted a 3-0 win over Saint Michael's in ECAC East Play at Cairns Arena. Sophomore forward Marisa Ketterman (Palmer, Alaska) had the remaining Franklin Pierce goal, as she and Baker finished the day tied for the team goal-scoring lead with 12 each.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 14-2-1 (8-1-0 ECAC East) and has won seven in a row, while Saint Michael's falls to 2-14-0 (1-9-0 ECAC East). The seven consecutive victories mark a new program best for the Ravens.

The first period on Saturday would go goalless, despite a 17-4 margin in shots on goal in favor of Franklin Pierce. Ultimately, neither team would score until after the midpoint of the game, as Baker ultimately opened the scoring at the 13:12 mark of the second stanza. Baker carried the puck through the right-wing side of the offensive zone, cut out front and finished her 11th of the season on the left side. Sophomore defenseman Katie Flynn (East Sandwich, Mass.) and junior defenseman Samantha Bureau (Ottawa, Ontario) picked up the assists on the play.

Ketterman made it 2-0 heading into the locker room after scoring her 12th of the season with just 64 seconds remaining in the period. She beat Saint Michael's sophomore goaltender Tina Frasca on the glove slide with a shot from the slot off of assists from freshman forward Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn.) and junior defenseman Haylea Barbieri (Plainville, Mass.).

Baker converted on the Ravens' fourth and final power-play chance of the day at the 16:12 mark of the third period to cap the scoring and create the 3-0 final. Sophomore forward Alysha Raimo (Fitchburg, Mass.) had the original shot on the play, though it was turned aside by Frasca. Junior forward Colleen Doucette (Wakefield, Mass.) corralled the rebound and slipped a quick pass to the left post for Baker who finished from there.

For Baker, it was her fourth multiple-goal game of the season, as well as the sixth of her career. Baker had just five points at the end of November through the season's first eight games, but has piled up 15 points (9-6-15) in the nine games since the calendar turned to December. She has been held without a point just once over the last nine contests.

Sophomore goaltender Noelle White (Corona, Calif.) faced just 17 shots in net for Franklin Pierce, but stopped them all to earn her fourth shutout of the season, her sixth career shutout, and the win (9-0-0). Frasca piled up 37 saves, but was still stuck with the loss (1-10-0) between the pipes for Saint Michael's.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday, Jan. 30, when they return home to host Saint Anselm in an ECAC East contest. Opening faceoff is set for 5 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon.
