Late Third-Period Goal Earns 3-3 Tie for Women’s Ice Hockey at Salve Regina

Ketterman, Harron post 1-1-2 each; Ravens 2-for-5 on power play

Harron Harron's first goal of the year was the game-tying goal for the Ravens on Tuesday night at Salve Regina.

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (January 14, 2014) – Sophomore forward Bryana Harron (Woburn, Mass.) put home a power-play goal with 5:54 remaining to cap a two-goal third-period rally on Tuesday night, as the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team pulled out a 3-3 tie on the road against Salve Regina at St. George's School Ice Rink. Harron and freshman forward Marisa Ketterman (Palmer, Alaska) had a goal and an assist each on the night.

With the draw, Franklin Pierce now stands at 12-2-1 and has a four-game unbeaten streak, while Salve Regina moves to 7-5-3 (2-4-0 ECAC East). It is the first tie in program history for Franklin Pierce and marks a turnaround from a 13-2 loss at the hands of the Seahawks in the program's first game a year ago. Salve Regina posted a 31-19 edge in shots in the game.

Salve Regina opened the scoring with the first period's only goal, at the 7:29 mark. Freshman forward Kayla Smith put home her second of the season, unassisted.

The Seahawks were whistled for a pair of penalties in the final 1:29 of the opening stanza, which left Franklin Pierce with 31 seconds of two-man advantage remaining to open the second period. The Ravens capitalized just 19 seconds into the frame, when sophomore forward Colleen Doucette (Wakefield, Mass.) cashed in her fifth goal of the campaign, off assists from sophomore forward Michaela Faia (Malden, Mass.) and freshman defenseman Katie Flynn (Sandwich, Mass.).

Doucette took a tripping minor just 21 seconds after her goal, and Salve Regina reclaimed the lead at 2-1 by converting on the ensuing power play. At the 2:06 mark, junior forward Michaela Chiuccariello finished off her fifth of the season, while sophomore forward Kimberly Spring added the lone assist.

The Seahawks pushed the lead to 3-1 at the 3:19 mark of the third period. The fourth of the season for freshman defenseman Amanda Cronin was unassisted and set the stage for Franklin Pierce's two-goal rally.

The Ravens pulled within a goal at the 8:32 mark on the seventh of the season from Ketterman. Senior forward Jamie Wiley (Cape Vincent, N.Y.) and Harron added the assists as Franklin Pierce pulled within a goal with 11:28 remaining.

Just shy of five minutes later, Spring was whistled for tripping at 13:21, giving the Ravens their fifth power-play chance of the night. They would convert 45 seconds into the man-advantage, as Harron netted her first goal of the season. Ketterman and sophomore defenseman Hayley Arnold (Barre, Vt.) chipped in the assists on what would stand as the game-tying goal.

The teams combined for eight shots, a 5-3 advantage for Salve Regina, in a high-flying overtime period, but neither side could find the game-winner.

Freshman goaltender Noelle White (Corona, Calif.) finished with 28 saves in front of the Franklin Pierce net on the way to the tie (6-2-1). On the other side, freshman Colleen Marcik (5-3-3) stopped 16 shots.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday, Jan. 17, when they return home to host Univ. of New England in the front end of a two-game, home-and-home weekend series. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon.
