Three-Goal Second Keys 4-0 Win for Women’s Ice Hockey at Plymouth State

Ravens head into exam/holiday break at 4-6-0

Doucette Doucette had her second game-winning goal of the season on Saturday afternoon at Plymouth State.

PLYMOUTH, N.H. (December 8, 2012) – Freshman forwards Colleen Doucette (Wakefield, Mass.), Francesca Paciello (Clinton, N.Y.) and Michaela Faia (Malden, Mass.) all scored in a span of 4:07 in the second period on Saturday afternoon to break a scoreless tie and propel the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team to a 4-0 win at Plymouth State. Junior goaltender Amelea Gray (Bozeman, Mont.) stopped all 24 shots she faced to earn her first shutout of the season.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 4-6-0, while Plymouth State falls to 2-7-0 (1-5-0 ECAC East). Franklin Pierce earned a split of the weekend home-and-home series with Plymouth State after falling at home, 3-1, on Friday night. The game was the last for the Ravens before breaking for exams and the holiday season.

After the first period went without a goal, Doucette started the scoring deluge at 1:55 of the second, with her team-leading seventh goal of the season, as Faia added the assist. Faia would be the only player to record more than one point on the day. Later, just 41 seconds apart, Paciello (5:21) and Faia (6:02) would stretch the lead to 3-0, with the latter converting on the power play. Junior forward Jamie Wiley (Cape Vincent, N.Y.) and freshman forward Bryana Harron (Woburn, Mass.) assisted on Paciello's fourth of the season, while freshman forward Karsyn Baker (Detroit, Mich.) and freshman defenseman Sarah Sheils (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had the helpers on Faia's sixth of the campaign.

The game would go without another goal until the Ravens capped the scoring with 40 seconds to play in the third on another power-play goal, this one in a 4-on-3 scenario. Freshman forward Alexandrea Kreuser (Knox, Ind.) scored her first career goal off assists from freshman defenseman Hayley Arnold (Barre, Vt.) and freshman forward Andrea Campos (Detroit, Mich.).

Gray stopped all 24 shots sent her way to pick up the win (4-6-0) and the first individual shutout in program history. The Ravens had one combined shutout earlier in the season. Junior goaltender Nicole Crandle made 19 saves and took the loss (1-2-0) between the pipes for Plymouth State.

The Ravens return to the ice on Sunday, Jan. 6, when they return home to host Saint Anselm. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
