Women’s Golf Slips to 10th on Final Day of Barry Invitational

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. (March 22, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's golf team wrapped up its trip to Florida on Tuesday, with the third and final round of the Barry University Invitational, at the 6020-yard, par-72 Senator Course at Shula's Golf Club. Freshman Phisonlaya Ruayruen (Chiangmai, Thailand) turned in a final-round 74 (+2) and moved up one spot to finish tied-12th, but the Ravens slid one spot to 10th, after a Tuesday 313 (+25).

For Ruayruen, it was a final line of 72-79-74--225 (+9), which was good enough to put her in a three-way tie for 12th, in the 77-golfer field. The Ravens had three in the 70s on Tuesday, as freshman Kesinee Prukmathakul (Bangkok, Thailand) and sophomore Kayla Schuberth (Wrentham, Mass.) both carded seven-over 79s. The former finished at 234 (+18) and was solo-39th, while the latter checked in at 241 (+25) and was tied-53rd.

Rounding out Franklin Pierce's five-player lineup, junior Micaela Leandro (Harlingen, Texas) shot a final-round 83 (+11), while fellow junior Alia Godek (Feeding Hills, Mass.) carded an 81 (+9). Leandro finished solo-62nd, with a three-round total of 247 (+31), while Godek was tied-71st at 258 (+42).

It all added up to a third-round 313 (+25) for the Ravens, which made for a two-day total of 321-311-313--945 (+81) and a 10th-place finish in a strong, 13-team field laden with Florida schools.

Tampa chalked up Tuesday's best round at 291 (+3) to pass Barry and claim the team title at 301-294-291--886 (+22). The host Buccaneers slid one spot to second, at 298-294-301--893 (+29), while Nova Southeastern held steady in third, at 303-295-297--895 (+31).

On the individual front, Tampa sophomore Emilie Bjorge used a final-round 71 (-1) to convert her overnight lead into a victory, with a final line of 72-72-71--215 (-1). Barry junior Alice Gotbring fired a third-round 69 (-3) to move up six spots to second, at 72-77-69--218 (+2), while Florida Southern senior Loren Perez finished third, at 74-73-72--219 (+3).

Franklin Pierce is off until Sunday, April 10, when the Ravens will meet Merrimack in a dual match at Nashua Country Club, in Nashua, N.H.
