Women’s Golf Finishes Second, Two Named to All-Championship Team at NE10 Championship
ALBANY, N.Y. (October 15, 2018) – The defending Northeast-10 Conference Women's Golf Champions, Franklin Pierce University was dethroned on Monday by Merrimack College at the Capital Hills Golf Club in Albany, N.Y.
FPU won their first title last year fending off the Warriors, but Merrimack brought their fourth league title back and first NCAA automatic bid to North Andover shooting a 627 (+59) over both rounds. The Ravens shot a 637 (+69) as they dropped three strokes from their Sunday showing. Southern New Hampshire University rounded out the top three at 666 (+98).
Juniors Zoe Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Taylor Hartley (Battle Ground, Wash.) were named to the All-Championship team for their efforts. Yamamoto finished second in the field of golfers shooting a steady 76 (+5) both days totaling 152 (+10). Hartley was only two strokes behind her teammate for third at 154 (+12). She dropped two from her Sunday scorecard during round two.
Krystal Knight of Merrimack was the championship medalist while Catherine French of Assumption and Hannah May of SNHU earned the other three slots on the All-Championship team.
Pierce freshman Christine Songcuan (Lancaster, Calif.) wrapped up the Raven top-10 finishes as she was deadlocked with two other golfers for eighth place (164, +22). Senior Sarah Daley (Beverly, Mass.) totaled a 167 (+25) which was good enough for 13th place. Junior Rosa Jones (Mastic, N.Y.) carded a 173 (+31) and a 20th place finish.
The women's team ends their fall slate next Monday when they travel to Nashville, Tenn. and the Old Hickory Country Club.
