Women’s Golf Caps Off Regular Season With Back-to-Back First Place Finishes

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (April 21, 2018) – Just a few weeks away from the 2018 NCAA Division II East Super Regionals, the Franklin Pierce University women's golf program ended their regular season on a high note with a first-place finish at the Saint Rose Spring Classic hosted by the Pinehaven Country Club this Friday and Saturday.

It was the second straight week the Ravens placed first and it marked the sixth time this season the Crimson and Grey have earned a tournament victory. FPU shot a two day total 649 (+73) as they bested fellow Northeast-10 Conference opponent Merrimack College (661, +85) by 12 strokes.

Camden Morrison (Millis, Mass.) led a foursome of Ravens who achieved top-five finishes. Morrison's second-place finish was her eighth top-three finish this season and marks the third time she has been the invitational runner-up. The senior shot a 161 (+17) and was narrowly beaten out by Krystal Knight (159, +15) of Merrimack for the top spot.

Sarah Daley (Beverly, Mass.) (163, +19), Zoe Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) (164, +20) and reigning NE10 Golfer of the Week Taylor Schmidt (West Springfield, Mass.) (166, +22) placed third, fourth and fifth respectively. Taylor Hartley (Battle Ground, Wash.) rounded out the teams scoring at 171 (+27) and Rosa Jones (Mastic, N.Y.) made the trip as an individual, chipped in a 178 (+34).

Friday – Day One

The Ravens shot a 320 (+36) on the par 71 course. Merrimack College, the second place program trailed the Crimson and Grey by 20 strokes.

Daley carried all golfers after producing a 75 (+4) round one showing. Morrison ranks second by rolling home a 78 (+7) scorecard. Schmidt concluded the Ravens top-three golfers at 83 (+12).

Yamamoto was tied for fourth place with Jessica Wagner from Merrimack at 84 (+13). Hartley totaled an 88 (+17) score and Jones finished the 18 holes at 93 (+22).

Saturday – Day Two

Merrimack had a huge hole to climb out of as they bettered their Friday score by 19 strokes. The Ravens were the only team to add on swings to their team total.

Although she did not count towards the teams score, Jones was the most improved golfer on day two as she knocked off eight strokes from her card to conclude the final 18 at 85 (+14). Hartley subtracted five strokes to complete the round at 83 (+12) and Yamamoto dropped four off her Friday total (80, +9).
