Women In Third Place, Men In Sixth Following First Round In Pennsylvania

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (April 9, 2018) The Franklin Pierce University men's and women's golf programs traveled to the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational hosted by the Penn Oaks Golf Club in West Chester, Pa. during a day that began with sunshine and concluded with snow flurries.

 

Women

The Raven women stand in third place out of 12 programs after totaling a 327 (+47) round one showing. They are currently only 10 strokes behind the leaders, Kutztown University (317, +37) and five strokes back of West Chester University (322, +42) for the second spot.

Camden Morrison (Millis, Mass.) leads the Raven women after the first 18 holes. The senior captain pitched in a first round 75 (+5) which places her second individually and only two strokes behind the clubhouse leader, Krystal Knight (73, +3) of Merrimack College. Zoe Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) is tied for 10th place after dropping home an 82 (+12) afternoon. Teammate Taylor Schmidt (West Springfield, Mass.) tallied an 83 (+13) and was slotted into a tie for 14th on the individual leaderboard.

Sarah Daley (Beverly, Mass.) and Sydney Caron (Gorham, Maine) produced 87 (+17) and 96 (+26) cards to wrap up the Raven scoring.

 

Men

The men's squad tallied a 312 (+32) opening 18 mark as they are in sixth place. They are trailing the leaders California (Pa.) by only 12 strokes, second place squad Millersville University by 11 and third slotted Indiana University of Pennsylvania by only eight.

Individually, Keeton Foster (Spofford, N.H.) and Liam Donohue (Vernon, Conn.) paced Pierce putting home 76 (+6) performances as the duo is tied for 11th place. Team captain Tom Arisco (Cheshire, Conn.) is deadlocked at 15th place (77, +7) while Dylan Plis (Camillus, N.Y.) and Sam Myers (Colchester, Vt.) rounded out the day one scores racking up an 83 (+13) and an 84 (+14).

Both programs head back to the links tomorrow for the final round.
