RINDGE, N.H. (October 11, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University women's golf team was chosen as the Northeast-10 Conference Team of the Month for September after calculations of a social media vote the league office announced on Wednesday morning. This is the first time a Franklin Pierce athletics program has received this honor.
Over the course of September, FPU women's golf won three tournaments overall, the Penmen Labor Day Classic (9/3-9/4), the Le Moyne Fall Invitational (9/17-18) and their first ever NE10 Women's Golf Championship (9/24-9/25). Their NE10 Championship title earned the NE10's first-ever automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Golf National Championship in early May.
The Ravens were selected as the team of the month through a vote the NE10 conducted on its various social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) in which more than 1,300 people voted - the highest turnout in the brief history of this honor. Franklin Pierce women's golf received 514 votes (38%) compared to the 491 votes (36%) the no. 17 nationally-ranked Assumption College football team received as the Crimson and Grey defeated the Greyhounds by a mere 23 votes.
The NE10 is an association of 15 diverse institutions serving student-athletes across 24 NCAA Division II sports. Together they build brilliant futures by embracing the journey of every student-athlete.
Each year, 4,500 student-athletes compete in conference championships, making the NE10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the NE10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
Women's golf returns to the links this coming Sunday and Monday as they host the FPU Fall Invitational at the Keene Country Club in Keene, N.H.
