Women’s Golf Begins Season on Fire with First Place Finish at SNHU

HANOVER, N.H. (September 4, 2017) The Franklin Pierce University women's golf team teed off their 2017-18 slate this past weekend at the Penmen Labor Day Classic hosted by Northeast-10 Conference opponent Southern New Hampshire University at the Hanover Country Club.

Due to the weather yesterday, all competitors could only complete about nine holes on the par 72, 5,826 yard course before returning to the links today to finish the final round and a half. The weather and incomplete round didn't affect the Ravens however as they took home first place in the tournament with a two day total of 613 (+37), which was six strokes better than second place finisher Merrimack College, (619, +43). Host SNHU, Post University and the College of Saint Rose rounded out the final three spots in the standings.

"All of our players contributed to our scoring which was great to see said head coach Tyler Bishop." "We have a lot of work to do this season, but this was a solid first tournament showing for our team."

The Ravens golfed a round one low of 297 (+9) which led the tournament and totaled 316 (+28) for the final 18. The squad was led by reigning NE10 Golfer of the Year, Camden Morrison (Millis, Mass.) and Rookie of the Year Zoe Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) who placed third and fourth overall at 145 (+1) and 154 (+10). Morrison was three under par through the first 18 at 69 (-3) while Yamamoto improved three spots in the standings by chalking up a consistent 77 (+5) both days.

Teammates Sarah Daley (Beverly, Mass.) and Rosa Jones (Mastic, N.Y.) tied for fifth place by turning in 160 (+16) scorecards. The duo both excelled over the first 18 as they shot 75 (+3) and 76 (+4) respectively. Jones competed as an individual so her score didn't count towards the team tournament total.

Rounding out the Raven showings were sophomore transfer student Taylor Hartley (Battle Ground, Wash.) (162, +18) and Taylor Schmidt (West Springfield, Mass.) (168, +24) with top-10 finishes at ninth and 10th place.
