Morrison Ends Run at NCAA Championships

FINDLAY, Ohio. (May 20, 2017) – For the first time in Franklin Pierce University women's golf program history, the Ravens were represented at the National Championships as junior golfer Camden Morrison (Millis, Mass.) competed as an individual this past week with four rounds of golf during the 2017 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships.

"She is the first player in program history to qualify for Regionals and then the National Championship. Camden gained so much experience from this week and has the motivation and determination to get back here again next year"

The team captain concluded the four days of golf at 322 (+34) which tied her with three other golfers for 47th place out of the 72 golfer field on the par 72 6,066 yard Findlay Country Club Course. She shot an 83 (+11), 74 (+2), 80 (+8) and 85 (+13) across the four rounds while putting in 35 pars and five birdies. Morrison's first 18 holes put her in a tie for 53rd place at the end of the first day. She topped out in a tie for 25th on Thursday and Friday before sending in her final scorecard on Saturday.

"The course was really hard said Morrison." "We had some tough weather, but it was definitely the perfect course for a National Championship. Overall it was really amazing to get to play here. I worked extremely hard and wanted to make it to the top and I did. Although I didn't play as well as I wanted to, I learned so much from getting to play at the highest level. I look forward to this summer and continuing to focus on my game and improving my game."

Marie Coors of Saint Leo's broke a tie with Ann Parmerter of Dallas Baptist for first place to take home the individual title at 295 (+7). Parmerter fell two spots into third place with a 299 (+11) score. Barry won the team title by one stroke over Dallas Baptist

Day One – Wednesday

Coming off a second place finish at the East Super Regionals last week in Canton, Morrison teed off at 8:35 a.m. on the 10th hole. She finished her afternoon on the course with an 83 (+11) scorecard which put her in a tie for 53rd place out of 72 golfers. She putted home eight pars to go along with one birdie during her first 18 of the week. 

Morrison is 10 strokes behind the four co-leaders, Maria Regina Gonzalez of Saint Mary's (Tx.), Parmerter, Pilar Echeverria of the University of Indianapolis and Mary Weinstein of Regis (Colo.) who all shot a 73 (+1).

Day Two – Thursday

Morrison concluded the first day with an 83 (+11) and sat in a tie for 53rd place. She teed off the first hole at 10:20 a.m. and turned in a solid second day performance as she knocked off nine strokes from her scorecard to finish the second round at 74 (+2).

She ascended 28 places in the individual standings into a tie for 25th place at 157 (+13) over the first two days by putting in 18 total pars and four birdies. Parmerter broke the four way tie for first place with a 73 (+1) second round to head into the clubhouse with the lead at 146 (+2).  Morrison is currently 11 strokes behind Parmerter for the top spot.

Day Three – Friday

Morrison teed off at 8:30 a.m. on the front nine Friday and she ended the third round in a tie for 25th place as she remained in 25th spot after an 80 (+8) showing. After three days, Morrison is at 237 (+21) with a total of 28 pars and five birdies.

Parmerter remains in first place for the second consecutive day after she tacked on five strokes to her second day score at 78 (+6) and 224 (+8). Marie Coors of Saint Leo's moved into a tie with Parmerter after a 75 (+3) scorecard.

Day Four – Saturday

Morrison began her final round by teeing off the back nine at 8:35 a.m. and shot an 85 (+13) to end her run in the Championship Tournament. She dropped from 25th place to a tie for 47th with the five stroke addition to her scorecard.
