Ravens, Daley Finish Second in Battle at the Bay

RISING SUN, Md. (March 27, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University women's golf team recorded their fourth second place finish of the season on Monday after the conclusion of the Battle at the Bay in Rising Sun, Md.

The top-three finish was the sixth of the campaign for the Crimson and Grey. The Ravens combined to golf a 659 (+91) over the two days as sophomore golfer Sarah Daley (Beverly, Mass.) placed second at 159 (+17) which was her best performance of the year. Daley took one stroke off her day one score, had three birdies on her score card along with 14 pars and finished only one stroke behind the medalist.

Gannon University took over the top spot with a 654 (+86) showing. Randolph-Macon College remained in third at 678 (+110) on the par 71, 5,824 yard Chesapeake Bay Country Club course. Northeast-10 Conference opponent Le Moyne College fell to fifth place (693, +125) and Adelphi University stayed at 11th (764, +196).

Day One - Sunday

Reigning NE10 Golfer of the Week, junior Camden Morrison (Millis, Mass.) was tied for second place at 79 (+8). Daley sat one stroke behind Morrison as she shot an 80 (+9) on the first 18. NE10 Rookie of the Week, Zoe Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) and junior Taylor Schmidt (West Springfield, Mass.) ranked within the individual leaderboards top-10 with scorecards of 82 (+11) and 83 (+12). Freshman Rosa Jones (Mastic, N.Y.) rounded out the day one scoring as she stroked a 97 (+26).

Morrison and Yamamoto led the Ravens in birdies with two apiece on Monday while Daley matched her fellow teammate Morrison with seven pars.

Day Two – Monday

Yamamoto jumped into a tie for fourth place (162, +20) as she dropped two strokes off her scorecard. Morrison (164, +22) and Schmidt (174, +32) gained strokes as they finished eighth and 22nd. Jones was by far the most improved golfer as she knocked off six strokes to place 50th at 188 (+46).

The Crimson and Grey will head back to the links in two weeks when they travel to West Chester, Pa. for the Dr. Edwin Cottrell Invitational at the Penn Oaks Golf Club.
