Women’s Golf Leads After First Day of Lady Penmen Classic

GOFFSTOWN, N.H. (April 16, 2016) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's golf team finished in first place at the end of the first day of the Lady Penmen Spring Classic, hosted by Southern New Hampshire at the Stonebridge Country Club. The Ravens were led by sophomore Taylor Schmidt (West Springfield, Mass.), who shot +4 on Saturday, and is in the lead overall.

The Ravens totaled 331 shots today for a 43-over-par score, to lead the three-team field at the end of day one.

Schmidt shot a 76 (+4) on the par-72 layout to lead the Ravens and lead the tournament on the first day. Just three strokes behind her was sophomore Camden Morrison (Mills, Mass.), who shot 79 (+7) to take second place.

Taking fourth place was freshman Sara Daley (Beverly, Mass.), who shot 84 (+12), and rounding out the top-10 finishers for the Ravens on Saturday was sophomore Anna Haynes (Hopedale, Mass.). Haynes sits in ninth place at 20 over par, after shooting 92.

Freshman Shannon Slater (Stafford Springs, Conn.) took 11th place after shooting a 95 (+23).

The Ravens head back to the links on Sunday for the second and final day of the Lady Penmen Classic.
