Women’s Golf slides through weekend, finishes eighth at Middlebury Invitational
MIDDLEBURY, V.T. (September 28, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce women's golf team rode first and second place finishes at their first two tournaments in program history. On Sunday, their luck would turn as they would place eighth at the Middlebury Invitational held at The Ralph Myhre Golf Course of Middlebury College.
Freshman Taylor Schmidt (West Springfield, Mass.) would card the top score for the second consecutive day for the Ravens, shooting an 82 on Sunday to bring her two-day total to a 165 putting her 12th on the leaderboard.
Behind Schmidt were classmates Anna Haynes (Hopedale, Mass.), Camden Morrison (Millis, Mass.), and Katy Lounsbery (Middletown, N.Y.). Morrison had the second best score of the day, shooting an 87, finishing 32nd. Haynes would go on to shoot a 92, pushing a two-day total 175, which was second best on the team and getting her a top 25 finish. Lounsbery would card a 112, besting her score from Satruday's round to close out the Ravens participation.
The tournament was dominated by Williams College, who took home both the individual and team top honors, beating out the second place finishers and hosts Middlebury College by 41 strokes. Sarah Hasselman finished with a two-day total of 150, giving her the individual win. Teammates Tracey Kim and Elizabeth Gudas would finish behind Hasselman to mark the significant win.
The Ravens take up the links next Sunday and Monday, October 5-6 for the Merrimack Invitational at Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston, Mass.
