Women’s Bowling Stands In Second Place Following Day One of Conference Championship

PORT JEFFERSON, N.Y. (March 23, 2018)  The Franklin Pierce University women's bowling team rolled right along during the first day of the 2018 East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship Friday at the Port Jeff Bowl.

The Ravens currently stand in second place after going 4-1 while dropping a total of 4,846 pins (193.8 average) across their five baker games. No. 23 nationally-ranked Lincoln Memorial University holds the top spot and were an unblemished 5-0 during day one as they knocked down only 37 more pins (4,883, 195.3 average) than the Crimson and Grey. No. 11 ranked Adelphi University (4,577, 183.1 average) and Felician University (4,575, 183.0) rounded out the top-four and earned byes Friday afternoon for the beginning of the double-elimination bracket.

Senior Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) led the Ravens in baker average with a 22.92 per frame mark. Krysta Peirce (Casco, Mich.) tallied a 19.96 mark while teammates Alexa Asta (Jackson, N.J.) and Erin Mastropietro (Mechanicville, N.Y.) produced 18.98 and 18.22 marks respectively.

Franklin Pierce's only setback came at the hands of sixth place Molloy College (910-942) as the squad knocked off conference foes Saint Thomas Aquinas College (923-460), Wilmington University (Del.) (1,019-791), Kutztown University (990-825), and Chestnut Hill College (1,004-829).

They recorded 12 games over 200 with their highest frame of the day (227) coming in the match versus Kutztown. The team of Asta, Mastropietro, Jenna Harrington (Barneveld, N.Y.). Peirce and Davies also deposited 210 and 202 scores in the Raven victory.

The Crimson and Grey begin their run through the bracket tomorrow when they face off against Chestnut Hill College.
