EGG HARBOR, N.J. (March 4, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University women's bowling team brought back a sixth-place finish to Rindge Sunday following three days of competition at the Hawk Flight Invitational for Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Sponsored By Ebonite International at the King Pin Bowling Center.

The Ravens finished the weekend with a 5-7 mark as they were dealt a tough schedule with five nationally-ranked opponents. On Friday, the Crimson and Grey upset no. 21 Norfolk State University by a 1,046-913 score. Over the course of the season, FPU has racked up a 49-41 (.544) record.

Individually, the Crimson and Grey were led by sophomore Krysta Peirce (Casco, Mich.) who finished sixth in the field of 110 bowlers Saturday during traditional play with a 196.80 average.

Day One – Friday

FPU notched a 3-2 mark after depositing 4,436 pins across five baker matches. The Ravens had a hard slate Friday with three nationally-ranked programs, no. 5 Sam Houston State University, no. 4 Vanderbilt University and Norfolk State.

The Ravens dropped the first two matches to the ranked squads but knocked over a day-high 1,046 pins in the victory over NSU. Alexa Asta (Jackson, N.J.), Katey Comstock (Hartland, Vt.), Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.), Peirce and Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) recorded three games with over 200 pins. Their best frame of the day came in game five at 245. To begin the match with NSU, the group dropped 233 pins and in game four they produced a 224 string.

Pierce's other two wins came at the hands of Coppin State University (895-699) and Roberts Wesleyan College (820-781).

Day Two – Saturday

FPU went 1-3 Saturday during traditional play to move their record to 4-5 on the weekend, but the Ravens knocked over more pins Saturday (4,528) than Friday (4.436) which led to a jump from seventh to fifth in the team rankings. The Ravens were only 131 pins behind no. 10 Fairleigh Dickinson University for fourth place.

Two of the three Raven setbacks came at the hands of ranked teams including a nine pin defeat to no. 16 Long Island University – Brooklyn. In their lone victory, a 952-804 decision against Belmont Abbey College, Peirce knocked down a Saturday-high 243 pins. She followed that up with a 201 frame against the bye.

Comstock and Erin Mastropietro (Mechanicville, N.Y.) rolled the only other 200+ strings Saturday for the Ravens. Comstock's 200 game came versus the bye where she rolled a 206 and Mastropietro rolled a 200 in the narrow defeat to LIU Brooklyn.

Day Three – Sunday

The team was 1-2 Sunday in the best of seven baker format. Their lone victory, a 4-0 sweep of Saint Francis College – Brooklyn was their middle match of the morning. The team of Asta, Mastropietro, Comstock, Davies, and Peirce posted two 200+ frames, a 203 total in game two and a 226 string in the deciding game. In their last showdown of the day, the same grouping dropped a Sunday-high 242 in game two versus Monmouth University.

The women's bowling program has one final tune-up before the East Coast Conference Championship this coming Friday, March 9th for the USBC ISC Sectionals at the 30 Strikes Bowling Center in Stratford, N.J.
