Bowling Knocks off #21 Norfolk State Friday

EGG HARBOR, N.J. (March 2, 2018) – Following a top-three finish at the Molloy 2-Day Tournament, the Franklin Pierce University women's bowling team opened up play for the first day of the Hawk Flight Invitational for Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Sponsored By Ebonite International at the King Pin Bowling Center Friday.

FPU notched a 3-2 mark after depositing 4,436 pins across those five baker matches.  On the year, Pierce holds a 47-36 (.566) record. The Ravens had a tough slate Friday with three nationally-ranked opponents, no. 5 Sam Houston State University, no. 4 Vanderbilt University and no. 21 Norfolk State University.

The Ravens dropped the first two matches to the ranked programs but knocked over a day-high 1,046 pins in the victory over NSU. Alexa Asta (Jackson, N.J.), Katey Comstock (Hartland, Vt.), Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.), Krysta Peirce (Casco, Mich.) and Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) recorded three games with over 200 pins. Their best frame of the day came in game five at 245. To begin the match with NSU, the group dropped 233 pins and in game four they produced a 224 string.

Pierce's other two wins came at the hands of Coppin State University (895-699) and Roberts Wesleyan College (820-781).

The women's bowling program hits the lanes tomorrow at 10 a.m. for the traditional game format.
