Mulligan-Brown Brings Home Single Tournament Title at Bowl for the Cure

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (October 21, 2017) – Freshman Skyler Mulligan-Brown (New Milford, Conn.) won the Sacred Heart Bowl for the Cure Singles Title as the no. 22 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce University women's bowling team traveled to Wallingford, Conn. Saturday for a one-day tournament at the Wallingford Bowl.

Mulligan-Brown was one of five Ravens bowlers to compete in the singles tournament. She was the only Raven to advance to the second round as well. As the #11 seed, Mulligan-Brown dispatched Molloy's Jennifer Bisogno by five points, 192-187. Next, Mulligan-Brown totaled the highest score of the second round and the third highest total overall at 266 which was 20 pins better than Sacred Heart's Gabby Gontarek. Mulligan-Brown reached the final four bowlers and again put up a round-best score of 232 as she moved on to the finals. She squared off with Sacred Heart's Rachel Bamford in the finals and won the singles championship 202-180. Mulligan-Brown averaged 223 a string across the singles ladder.

As a team, the Crimson and Grey were 2-3 on the day as they dropped a total of 4,818 pins and earned wins over no. 9 nationally-ranked Sacred Heart (1,126-1,108) and Caldwell (942-858). On the year, Franklin Pierce is 9-5 overall and 4-3 against nationally-ranked opponents while knocking over 14,156 pins.

Team captain Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) appeared in all five matches for the Crimson and Grey and totaled a pinfall of 1,005, the largest on the team. Teammate Krysta Peirce (Casco, Mich.) also appeared in five games and racked up a pinfall of 947.

In the Ravens upset victory over the hosts, sophomore Jenna Harrington (Barneveld, N.Y.) led all Ravens with a 246 showing. Davies added a 236, her best score of the day and senior Brittany Hovan (Paramus, N.J.) racked up a 222. Hovan tallied the largest score of the team portion during the Bowl for the Cure as her 254 was key to the Ravens victory versus Caldwell. No other Raven bowler recorded a score in the 200s during that duel.

Franklin Pierce returns to the alley during the weekend of November 3-5 as they compete at the N.J. Jamboree at the 30 Strikes Bowling Center.
