Franklin Pierce women's bowling

KEENE, N.H. (March 25, 2017)  The no. 20 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce University women's bowling team 2016-17 season concluded on Saturday during the second day of the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championships at the Yankee Lanes in Keene.

No. 17 nationally-ranked Adelphi University awaits the winner of the Lincoln Memorial University/Felician University contest tomorrow for the ECC Title. If Adelphi defeats either the Railsplitters or Golden Falcons in one try tomorrow, the Panthers will be crowned conference champions. Adelphi hasn't lost a head to head contest yet.

The double elimination bracket began early evening Friday and the Ravens held the #1 seed. Teams were eliminated from the tournament once they suffered two losses. FPU lost two contests on Saturday and finished in fourth place for the second straight year.

Raven senior team captain Colleen Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) was the lone FPU selection to the 2017 ECC All-Tournament Team.

Day One – Friday

Franklin Pierce was 2-2 on Friday, but ended the evening in first place with a total baker pinfall of 4,727 which averages to 189.1 pins a string. Rounding out the top three were no. 17 nationally-ranked Adelphi University who didn't lose a head to head contest (4-0) while knocking down 4,580 pins and Kutztown University was in third at 2-2 and 4,402 pins.

The Ravens two victories came against Lincoln Memorial (W, 964-833) and #17 Adelphi (W, 1,043-948). The win versus Adelphi was the Ravens first time they've defeated the Panthers all season and it came off a weekend-best 235 third game score as the Crimson and Grey manufactured seven strikes in the game. They also racked up nine games with scores over 200, four of them came in the final duel with Adelphi.

Freshman Alexa Asta (Jackson, N.J.) led the team in baker average on day one as she dropped 20.04 pins. Kelly added a 19.57 average and freshman Krysta Peirce (Lenox, Mich.) rolled an 18.82.

Day Two – Saturday

The Ravens began competition on Saturday with a duel versus Daemen College. Franklin Pierce bested the Wildcats by a 4-1 margin and rolled a day-high of 219 while tallying a 188 and 189 score. The Crimson and Grey advanced to take on LMU who they defeated already on Friday morning. This time, the Railsplitters rolled by the Ravens 4-2 as they racked up a match best 213 in the setback.

With one loss on their record, the Ravens would have bowl perfectly the rest of the way. They matched up with Kutztown in their third duel of the day and were victorious 4-2. FPU stayed alive and advanced to face off versus Felician who they already lost against. The Golden Falcons swept the Ravens 4-0 which ended the Raven season.
