Bowling Concludes Final Tune-Up Before Conference Championship

SMYRNA, Tenn. (March 19, 2017) – The no. 20 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce University women's bowling team wrapped up competition at the Music City Classic this past weekend at Vanderbilt University.

The Ravens combined to go 5-8 on the weekend and their overall mark jumped to 52-42 (.553) on the season. FPU also moved up a spot in the team standings to finish 25th with a total pinfall of 11,054 which averaged to 173 a game.

McKendree University took over the top spot in the standings to take home the team title at 11-1 with a total of 11,835. Arkansas State University, who led all weekend fell to second place while Sacred Heart finished in third.

Junior Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) led the Raven bowlers individually with 910 pins good enough for an average of 182.0 across five starts. Davies placed 65th out of 237 bowlers.

 

Day One – Friday

The Ravens two wins on Friday came at the hands of Bethune-Cookman (808-797) and Mount Aloysius (948-834). FPU notched their highest total score on the afternoon, a 220 mark versus Mount Aloysius. They also added a 203 in the same matchup.

Sophomore Sarah Busse (Commack, N.Y.) led all Raven bowlers in baker average as she combined to roll a 19.35. Davies chipped in an 18.26 average and senior Colleen Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) rolled an 18.15.

 

Day Two – Saturday

The Ravens were victorious in only one match on Saturday, a 939-865 win against no. 5 nationally-ranked Vanderbilt University. Davies and teammate Jessica Marcure (Attleboro, Mass.) recorded the two highest scores in the Raven win as they rolled a 198 and 192 respectively. Kelly tallied the highest mark of Saturday in the setback to no. 7 nationally-ranked Stephen F. Austin as she bowled a 205.

Davies and Kelly ranked first and second in total pinfall for the squad on day two while freshman Jenna Harrington (Barneveld, N.Y.) knocked down 847 pins in five starts.  

 

Day Three – Sunday

The Crimson and Grey began the third and final day of competition with a 4-1 loss to Lincoln Memorial. Then, the Ravens faced off versus Alabama State University as Alexa Asta (Jackson, N.J.), Harrington, Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.), Marcure and Davies combined to bowl a weekend best 223 in a 4-0 sweep. The Ravens avenged their earlier loss to Lincoln Memorial by turning the tables with a weekend closing 4-1 victory.

The Ravens will host the East Coast Conference Championship this weekend at the Yankee Lanes in Keene, N.H. with competition opening on Friday morning.
