Women’s Bowling Ends Weekend at ITC Sectionals

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (March 12, 2017) – The #20 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce University women's bowling team traveled to Allentown, Pa. this weekend for the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITC) Sectionals at the AMF Rose Bowl.

The USBC Sectionals is a postseason event for collegiate bowling. In order to compete this weekend, teams have to qualify in the nation's top-64. The 64 squads are spread out across four locations and the team's bowl four blocks of four baker games, break for lunch then return to play with four more blocks of four baker contests. The top four teams from each location advance to nationals in April. Individually, the top five bowlers from each sectional will advance to nationals as well.

The format for the weekend of bowling differs from NCAA Events. There is no win or loss record and results are solely based on total pinfall.

The Ravens wrapped up the sectionals in 16th place after competing for 64 games across the two days. As a team, the Crimson and Grey knocked down a total of 10,328 pins. FPU had a better day on the alley in the finale on Sunday the clipped 130 more pins than their day one total.

The top three teams of Webber Int'l (12,647 pins), Maryland - Eastern Shore (12,279 pins) and Wright State (12,052) remained in the top three spots on Sunday while Notre Dame-Ohio (11,886) leapfrogged Duquesne (11,806) on the final day for the fourth and final bid to nationals.

Freshman Katey Comstock (Hartland, Vt.) was the lone individual bowler for the Ravens on Friday and she placed 93rd by knocking down 979 pins. Her high score came in the opening game as she rolled a 184 and the newcomer concluded her day of bowling with a score of 181. 

Joining Comstock in the tournament were Rachel DesRuisseaux (Goffstown, N.H.), Meggin Brooks (Rotterdam, N.Y.), Erin Mastropietro (Mechanicville, N.Y.) and Brittany Hovan (Paramus, N.J.).

The five bowlers' best games of the entire weekend came on Sunday when they combined to drop 216 pins in game 54. Their second highest tally was a day-one high of 196 that came during game six. They also scored a 190 in game three on the first day.

The Ravens return to action this weekend for their final tune up before the East Coast Conference Championship when they travel to Nashville for the Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University.
