Ravens Head Home after 13th Place Finish at Monmouth

EGG HARBOR, N.J. (March 5, 2017) – The no. 20 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University women's bowling team finished in 13th place at the Hawk Flight Invitational hosted by Monmouth University this past weekend at the King Pin.

The Ravens finished the weekend with a 6-7 mark and currently stand at 47-34 (.580) on the season. The Ravens placed 13th of 16 teams with a total pinfall of 8,630 through two days of competition.

#6 nationally-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson University took home first place after jumping two spots in the standings from Saturday while finishing the invite with a 9-4 mark. #4 ranked Sam Houston State placed second and #5 Vanderbilt University rounded out the top three.

Individually, Raven team captain Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) ranked within the invites top-20 as the 20th best bowler. Davies racked up a team-high 941 pinfall across five games on Saturday which averages to 188.20 per contest. Teammate Krysta Peirce (Lenox, Mich.) placed 38th with a total pinfall of 855.

Day One – Friday

FPU earned wins over LIU-Post (855-747) and Saint Peter's (913-756), but dropped three duels to nationally ranked opponents.

Freshman Alexa Asta (Jackson, N.J.) led the Raven bowlers with a 19.14 baker average through the first day. Team captain Colleen Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) had an exceptional day of bowling as she racked up an 18.40 average.

Day Two – Saturday

Franklin Pierce improved their record on day two by going 3-2 while knocking down eight less pins than the first day. They opened the day with a 937-881 victory versus Felician University that saw Davies roll a day best 248 score followed by Sarah Busse's (Commack, N.Y.) 192 tally and Brittany Hovan's (Paramus, N.J.) mark of 184. The Ravens momentum continued into the second match of the day against Chestnut Hill (W, 801-777) as Davies led the team once again with a 176 followed by Asta's (Jackson, N.J.) 166.

Following two setbacks, the Crimson and Grey wrapped up the day victorious versus Duquesne by an 836-806 mark. Junior Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.) bowled a team-high 185 in the win while Davies racked up a 171 score.

Day Three – Sunday 

The Crimson and Grey started off the day on Sunday with a duel versus Duquesne and fell by a 4-1 score. The Ravens then were swept by Kutztown (4-0) then beat Chestnut Hill 4-2 in the 13th place game.

FPU returns to the alley next weekend at the USBC ITC Sectionals at the AMF Rose Bowl in Allentown, Pa.
