Bowling Places 16th at KU Invitational

READING, Pa. (January 22, 2017) – The no. 17 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University women's bowling team wrapped up their trip to the KU Invitational hosted by Kuztown University at the Hiester Lanes on Sunday afternoon.

FPU finished the trip with an 8-7 mark and currently stand at 34-23 (.596) on the season. The Ravens finished in 16th place of 28 teams with a total pinfall of 13,785 in 76 games for an average of 181 a contest.

Vanderbilt University remained atop of the standings for the third straight day and went 13-2 on the weekend to capture the tournament title. Delaware State and Fairleigh Dickenson placed second and third respectively.

Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.) led Franklin Pierce over the three days of competition with a total pinfall of 1,169. She finished 32rd out of 167 bowlers. Also ranking within the top-50 was Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) who placed 44th and knocked down 1,134 pins on the weekend.

Day One – Friday

The Ravens went 3-3 on the first day of competition and earned wins over Medaille (988-770), Bethune Cookman (933-856) and a victory against no. 8 ranked Central Missouri (910-859). All three Raven setbacks came at the hands of nationally ranked opponents, no. 4 McKendree, no. 14 Wisconsin-Whitewater and no. 22 North Carolina A&T.

Team captain Jessica Davies led the Ravens in baker average at 19.6. Fellow captain, Senior Colleen Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) rolled a 19.5 during day one of bowling.

Day Two – Saturday

The squad was 4-2 on the second day of competition wins over no. 20 nationally ranked Norfolk State (966-912), Pitt-Bradford (840-705), Chestnut Hill (883-851) and Youngstown State (977-942).

Nicolette Vucak played in all six contests and tallied a total pinfall of 1,169 which led the team. Her high score was a 236 which was the high roll of the day of all Raven bowlers. Jessica Marcure (Attleboro, Mass.) rolled her high score of 199 in the loss to Tulane.

In the Ravens first win of the day versus Pitt-Bradford, Jessica Davies led the way with a 208 followed by Vucak's score of 191. Freshman Jenna Harrington (Barneveld, N.Y.) competed against Chestnut Hill and collected a team-leading score of 202. Colleen Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) and Vucak rolled in the 200s with scores of 215 and 210 respectively in the win against Norfolk State. Versus Youngstown State, Sarah Busse (Commack, N.Y.) (216), Kelly (206) and Vucak (207) all scored over 200.

Day Three – Sunday

Day three was a best of seven tournament style competition. In their first match of the day the Ravens won by a 4-2 score versus no. 9 nationally-ranked Monmouth. Combined the Ravens bowled a 268 game. With the win, the Crimson and Grey advanced to the next round to face off against no. 8 Central Missouri and fell the no. 8 nationally-ranked opponent by another 4-1 score. Franklin Pierce then had a rematch with Monmouth and lost by a 4-1 margin effectively ending their tournament run.

The Ravens head back to the alley in a few weeks when they travel to the Golden Bear Classic on February 10, 11 and 12th.
