Bowling finishes with tough luck first day at FDU NJ Jamboree

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (October 30, 2015) – The Franklin Pierce Bowling team found themselves on the wrong side of .500 in five matches on Friday, as they finished 1-4 on the day in their first day at the Fairleigh Dickinson University New Jersey Jamboree. The tournament will last all through the weekend, with the final day of the tournament coming on Sunday. The Ravens currently sit 20th in the field after the first day.

The Ravens began their day matched up against North Carolina A&T State University, where they faced their roughest loss of the day. The crimson and grey dropped the match 1,001-820, going down 0-1 on the day. Things didn't get any easier in match two, as Franklin Pierce matched up against Morgan State, and came short in the match 921-817.

Franklin Pierce went into match three down 0-2, and put together their only win of the afternoon, as they defeated Bethune-Cookman by a score of 918-807. The crimson and grey then got hit with two more losses on the day, dropping their fourth match to host Fairleigh Dickinson by only four pins by a score of 971-967, and their final match to Sacred Heart by a score of 978-926.

Leading the Ravens on the board is sophomore Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) who put together an average of 197, sits 36th in the field of 197. Davies found her best scores of the day in the Ravens' final two matchups, putting together two scores of 224 and 244 to boost her up the charts.

Further down the boards finishing top 80 were sophomore Colleen Kelly (Quincy, Mass.), sophomore Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.), and sophomore Brittany Hovan (Paramus, N.J.). Kelly finished 63rd with an average of 179.40, while Vucak finished 69th with an average of 173.20. Hovan finished up her day with an average of 168.60, but put together a round of 208 in the first match of the day.

The Ravens return to the lanes tomorrow, October 31 for day two of the tournament.
