Bowling Finishes 17th at Music City Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 20, 2016) -- The Franklin Pierce University bowling team finished 17th out of 30 teams, as it finished the final day at the Music City Classic, hosted by Vanderbilt, by sweeping its final three matches, which were played in a best-of-seven Baker format.

The Ravens totaled 2,923 pins, averaging 974 per match on the day. Added to Friday and Saturday, Franklin Pierce dropped 13,492 pins over the three-day event (178 per match), and finished the weekend 9-6 overall.

The Ravens opened Sunday against St. Francis (N.Y.), and knocked down a day high of 219 pins in the third game. Franklin Pierce was able to take four wins to the Terriers' two and outscore St. Francis along the way, 1,115- 1018.

Franklin Pierce next had a rematch with Bethune-Cookman, and swept the Wildcats in four games, by a combined score of 765-639.

In the third and final match of the weekend, the Ravens faced the Jackson State Tigers, in what turned into a tight match. Both teams tied the first two games, scoring 171 and 169, respectively. The Ravens took the third game, 200-160, but JSU came back to with the fourth game. Franklin Pierce outshot the Tigers in the final two games for the win, with the final score standing at 1043-985.

The Ravens travel to Reading, Pa. next weekend, March 25-26 for the ECC Championship, hosted by Kutztown University.
