Win Over No. 5 Stephen F. Austin Highlights Second Day for Bowling at Music City Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 19, 2016) -- The Franklin Pierce University bowling team defeated No. 5 nationally ranked Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, while sophomore Colleen Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) led the team with an average of 195 pins per game in the traditional style format at the second day of the Music City Classic, hosted by Vanderbilt.

On the second day, the Ravens totaled 5,286 pins, averaging 880 per match. The highest score of the day came in the second match, a 246 by Kelly.

The Ravens fell in their first match of the second day, against No. 24 Prairie View A&M, by a final score of 858-828. Sophomore Nikki Vucak (Garfield, N.J.) rolled a high score of 213.

Franklin Pierce faced No. 5 Stephen F Austin next, with Kelly taking down 246 pins, and sophomores Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) and Brittany Hovan (Paramus, N.J.) dropping 196 and 192 pins, respectively. The Ravens were able to outshoot the Lumberjacks by a final score of 993-821.

In the third match of the day, Franklin Pierce met up with Tulane, but they were outshot by the Green Wave, 959-870.

In the fourth match of the day, the Ravens squared off with conference rival Felician. Dropping 58 more pins than the Golden Falcons, Franklin Pierce took the win, 809-751.

Alabama A&M was the fifth opponent of the day, with freshman Sarah Busse (Commack, N.Y.) dropping 201 and Vucak adding 200 to take the Ravens to their third win of the day, by a final score of 960-701.

The final match of the day was a close contest, but Ravens ultimately fall to Howard University, 893-824.

Leading the Ravens in scoring on Saturday was Kelly with 1,167 total pinfall (195 per game), followed closely by a Vucak with 1132 pinfall on the day (188 per game) and Davies with 1045 (174 per game).

The Ravens play their final matches at the Music City Classic on Sunday, in best-of-seven Baker matches.
