Bowling Goes 1-3 on Second Day of Hawk Flight Invitational

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (February 27, 2016) -- The Franklin Pierce University bowling team played three nationally-ranked teams on Saturday, in the second day at the Hawk Flight Invitational, hosted by Monmouth University at Carolier Lanes. In the traditional-style format, the Ravens succumbed to three teams, but took home the win in their last match against Caldwell to finish 1-3 on the day.

The Ravens posted a total pinfall of 3,854 over four matches, which was good for an average of 963.5 per match. The team's best match came against No. 19 nationally ranked St. Francis (N.Y.), as they took down 1,041 pins. Sophomore Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) shot 234 in her game, for the highest pinfall of the match.

The first match of the day was against No. 3 Vanderbilt, where sophomore Colleen Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) knocked down 214 pins, but Ravens were unable to beat the Commodores, falling by a final score of 1223-929.

The Ravens faced St. Francis (N.Y.) in their aforementioned best match of the day. Freshman Sarah Busse (Commack, N.Y.) totaled 226 pins, Davies dropped 234 and sophomore Brittany Hovan (Paramus, N.J.) knocked down 213 pins. Despite their high scores, Franklin Pierce was unable outshoot the Terriers and fell just short, 1124-1041.

The third match of the day was against No. 9 Fairleigh Dickenson University, with the Knights taking the win by a final score of 1116-929.

In the final match on Saturday, the Ravens were able to take down Caldwell. Kelly shot a 234 and Davies broke 200 as well, with 210 pins. The Cougars were unable to keep up with the Ravens, who won by a 955-794 final score.

The Ravens wrap things up in New Jersey on Sunday, Feb. 28, in the final day of the Hawk Flight Invitational, which will feature best-of-seven Baker matches.
