Bowling Posts 3-2 Record on First Day of Golden Bear Classic

READING, Pa. (February 12, 2016) -- The Franklin Pierce University bowling team finished above .500 on Friday, going 3-2 in its five matches in Baker format. The team totaled 4402 pins over the five matches on the opening day of the Golden Bear Classic, hosted by Kutztown at Bowl-O-Rama.

Franklin Pierce opened the day against the No. 19 nationally ranked St. Francis College (N.Y.) Terriers. The Ravens were able to out-shoot the Terriers in all but one of the five games, including a 203-188 margin in the fifth game. Ultimately, the Ravens took the win with a score of 928-879.

The second match of the day was against the Saint Peter's Peacocks, where the Ravens won just two games, but was still able to drop more pins than the Peacocks and take the win by a score of 845-807. The Ravens then fell in their third match of the day, as No. 22 Sacred Heart University was able to outshoot Franklin Pierce, 946-821.

Franklin Pierce looked like it might bounce back, as it took the win in the first game against Caldwell University, 195-178. However, the Ravens ultimately fell to the Cougars, 977-906.

In the last match of the day, the Ravens swept away New Jersey City University, dropping nearly 200 more pins than their opponent, as the final score was 902-714.

Sophomore Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) posted a Baker average of 209.98, sophomore Colleen Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) followed at 206.5, and freshman Sarah Busse (Commack, N.Y.) checked in at 187.1, as the trio led the way for the Ravens on the first day.

The Golden Bear Classic continues tomorrow, with six more five-game matches on tap for the Ravens ahead of Sunday's position round.
