Bowling dominates competition en route to 5-0 record in Day Two of Hawk Flight Invitational

Bowling pins

EGG HARBOR, N.J. (February 21, 2015) – Freshman Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.) took home a total pin fall of 900 on the day, as she was the top scoring Raven in a perfect 5-0 day in the second day of the Hawk Flight Invitational hosted by Monmouth University.

The Ravens came out strong against New Jersey City in their first match of the day, as Vucak and classmate Jessica Marcure (Attleboro, Mass.) both recorded scores over 200 to lead the Ravens to 926-631 romping of the opponent. Marcure got the top score of 213 while Vucak came in at 203. Freshman Brittany Hovan (Paramus, N.J.), junior Rebekah Varin (West Warwick, R.I.), and freshman Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) were the other Ravens in on the win.

The Ravens took control once again in their second match of the day, as they deleted Felician by a score of 827-751. Vucak and Marcure flip-flopped finishing positions, as it was Vucak recording the top score in this match. She tossed a 184, followed by a 171 by Marcure. Varin was right on their heels with a 170.

In their third match, Franklin Pierce brought home another W, as they defeated Saint Peters by a score of 838-686. With the same five bowlers in as the previous two matches, the Ravens were led this time by Varin, as she tossed a 190, followed by a 174 by a combination of Davies and freshman Curran Desjardins (Ashcutnet, Mass.). Marcure came in just under that at 172, and Vucak the same at 170. Hovan rounded out the Ravens competition on the game.

Franklin Pierce then faced the hosts, Monmouth University, in their fourth match. The Ravens took their only loss against the Hawks on Friday, and looked to give back some revenge. With a newly scrambled lineup that now included the likes of Desjardins and freshman Kaitlyn Poirier (Winchester, N.H.), the Ravens edged out the Hawks by a final of 838-836. The win marked a huge win for the Ravens, giving them a chance to end the day as the top team going into Sunday. It was Desjardins who came up huge for Franklin Pierce, bowling a 197 as the top scoring Raven in the match.

In their fifth and final matchup of the day, the Ravens took on Cheyney, another team they have found success against all season long. Franklin Pierce once again proved their dominance and took a 881-772 victory, led by Varin with a 192. Hovan regained her first match form and bowled a second-best 190. Marcure and Vucak stayed consistent, as they bowled a 173 and 170, respectively. Desjardins rounded out the Ravens lineup with a 156 in the match.

The Ravens return to the lanes, tomorrow, Sunday, February 22 for the third and final day of the Hawk Flight Invitational hosted by Monmouth.
