Bowling lights up the lanes at second day of VUU Invitational

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (November 22, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce bowling team put together another solid day on the lanes on Saturday, as the Ravens would finish 4-2 to put themselves into a second place spot going into tomorrow's final day of competition at the VUU Invitational. The day's event was in individual team format, with tomorrow's consisting of bracket matches.

In the Ravens first match of the day, they were able to take the win over Chowan by a score of 926-822. Junior Rebekah Varin (West Warwick, R.I.) would pace Franklin Pierce in the match with a high score of 215, while Nikki ended with a strong 203. In the Ravens second match, they would take on their only loss of the day at the hands of Felician College by a final margin of 966-940. Freshman Curran Desjardins (Ashcutnet, Mass.) came out with the top score for the Ravens with a 211, while Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) would finish with a solid 201 in the losing effort. In the third match, Franklin Pierce would convincingly take the win over Livingstone by a score of 807-607.

In the fourth match of the day, the Ravens would take on host Virginia Union University. Franklin Pierce would greet their host with a romping, taking the win 933-664. Varin would find herself back toward the top of the scoreboard with a 194, while freshman Jess Marcure (Attleboro, Mass.) was the top Ravens performer with a 212. In match five, Franklin Pierce would take on Sacred Heart, and end up pulling their first tie of the year after both teams came out firing. The final would be 991-991, but Sacred Heart would take the tiebreaker advantage over Franklin Pierce.

In their final match of the day, the crimson and grey would be pitted against Felician once more after receiving their only loss to them earlier in the day. The Ravens would get their sweet revenge when it mattered most by taking the 958-903, led by Davies who posted the best Franklin Pierce score of 224.

With the strong day, the Ravens are bracketed as the second team, and will take on Cheyney in the first round of the final day of the VUU Invitational.
