Bowling competes in first day at Hawk Classic

PRINCESS ANNE, M.D. - (November 14, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce Ravens bowling team started their weekend on a tough note, going 0-6 and giving themselves a 15th place finish on the first day of the Hawk Classic hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

The Baker style format brought the team together as one combined score through the frames. The Ravens put up a total of 5,074 for the 15th place finish.

The Ravens would first face St. Francis Brooklyn. St. Francis would take the win over Franklin Pierce by a final score of 927-795. The Ravens second match would find them squared off against powerhouse Fairleigh Dickinson University, where they would be defeated by a score of 980-889. Franklin Pierce's next opponent would be Long Island University-Brooklyn, and the crimson and grey would drop another heartbreaker 926-839. The Ravens best match of the day came against North Carolina A&T State University, where they bowled a high 921 on the day. Unfortunately for the Ravens, their best of the day wouldn't be enough, as they were edged out 931-921 in the barnburner. The Ravens fifth match pitted them against St. Francis (PA), and Franklin Pierce would once again come in behind, dropping the match 861-797.

From here, seeding was done for the tournament, and the Ravens would end up 14th, and play the 5th seed Stephen F. Austin State University. This would wrap up Franklin Pierce's final match of the day, as the fell 1,063-833.

The Ravens will return to the lanes tomorrow for day two of the Hawk Classic, and will play with an individual format.
