Women’s Bowling shines with 5-0 showing at Kutztown

READING, P.A. (October 19, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce women's bowling team came out to play on Sunday afternoon at the Kutztown University Fall Team Matches hosted by Kutztown University. The highlight of the Ravens day came with a big win over top 20 nationally ranked Delaware State University in their fourth match of the day.

The Ravens first faced off against Pittsburgh Bradford, and collected a win by the score of 817-757 with the help of freshman Curran Desjardins (Ashcutnet, Mass.) who lit up the lanes in the first match shooting a 200. The Ravens then came out and recorded a win over Penn State Altoona by a score of 837-742 in their second match of the day. Desjardins would not be finished, as she aided the Ravens third victory of the day over Mount Aloysius by shooting a 214 in a Franklin Pierce 862-765 win.  The Ravens added yet another win in their fourth match as they squared off against top 20 nationally ranked Delaware State University, defeating them in a close 912-905 battle. Junior Rebekah Varin (West Warwick, R.I.) and freshman Kaitlyn Poirier (Winchester, N.H.) each had big matches for the Ravens, as Varin shot a 213 while Poirier added a 201. Lastly, the Ravens grabbed their fifth and final W of the day over Coppen State by the score of 869-642, as freshman Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) shot a 200 to help propel Franklin Pierce to the win.

Desjardins would come out as the top Ravens bowler of the day, collecting an 11th place individual finish with a five-game total of 938. Davies and Varin were also not far behind, as Davies was the only other Raven to shoot over 900, finishing 15th with a total of 913, while Varin finished 18th with an 888.

The Ravens next hit the lanes on Saturday, October 25 when they compete in the Pioneer Invitational hosted by Sacred Heart University.
