MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (November 23, 2014) – Heading into bracket play on the third and final day of the VUU Invitational, hosted by Virginia Union at Bowl America, the Franklin Pierce University bowling team was seeded second, and in the running for the program's first-ever tournament title. The Ravens would have to settle for third on Sunday, after falling to Cheyney and defeating Felician, but still came home with hardware. Freshman Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) was named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of play.

The Ravens opened best-of-seven Baker play on Sunday against third-seeded Cheyney, which had defeated Franklin Pierce in round robin play on Friday. The Ravens quickly found themselves in a 2-0 hole, as Cheyney posted 194-174 and 192-135 wins. Franklin Pierce's best game of the match came in the third game, with a 202-181 victory, but Cheyney closed things out with 191-148 and 172-152 triumphs.

The loss sent Franklin Pierce to the third-place match, where it squared off with fourth-seeded Felician, which had fallen to eventual champion Sacred Heart, 4-1. The Ravens set the tone with a pair of scores over 185 pins, picking up 187-178 and 194-156 victories. Felician responded with a 190-178 win in the third game, but then Franklin Pierce closed things out. The Ravens took the fourth game, 193-171, before capping the victory with their best game of the day, a 206-188 triumph in the fifth game, to finish things off.

In all, Franklin Pierce averaged 176.9 pins across the 10 games it bowled on Sunday.

The Ravens return to the lanes after the semester break, on Jan. 30-31 at the Red Flash Invitational, hosted by Saint Francis (Pa.) in Altoona, Pa.
