This Franklin Pierce University women's basketball recap is presented by Belletetes

RINDGE, N.H. (January 16, 2019) – Franklin Pierce University women's basketball sophomore guard Sophia Holmes (Oakland, Maine) tallied double-digit points for the seventh straight game, but Northeast-10 Conference opponent Pace University used efficient second and third quarters to upend the Ravens 72-56 Wednesday evening at The Fieldhouse. With the win, the Setters move to 7-10, 4-5 NE10 while the Ravens are still in search of their first league win.

Holmes led all Ravens with 19 points on 7-of-14 (50%) shooting and a 3-of-6 (50%) downtown performance. She snagged a team-best six rebounds and dished out a team-high three helpers. Freshman guard Lisa Sulejmani (Burlington, Vt.) chipped in eight points, four boards, and three assists while classmate Izzy Lipinski (Farmington, Conn.) tacked on seven markers, three caroms and a game-high three blocks.

Four of Five Pace starters scored in double figures including guard Jackie DelliSanti who produced a game-high 24 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double. Fellow guard Lauren Hackett added 11 points and a game-best 10 helpers in the win.

The Setters forced the Ravens into 27 turnovers in the game and they capitalized on the Pierce miscues scoring 23 points, however, the Ravens notched 15 offensive boards compared to the Pace seven and FPU notched 17 second-chance points. FPU also started off hot from the hardwood marking 8-of-14 (57.1%) from the field in the first quarter, but they buried only 12-of-40 (30%) in the remaining quarters.

Lauren Schetter scooped a layup down on the left block off the window and in for the contest opening points. Trailing 4-0 Holmes netted the Ravens first bucket, a running floater on the right side. Lipinski tied the score 4-4 on the ensuing Raven possession buying a turnaround jumper on the left block. Alexandra Monteleone drained the first three-ball of the game from the right corner and Brianna Wong stole the ball away from Raven sophomore forward Freya Cooney (Woodbridge, England) and went the other way for a fast break layup to push ahead 9-4. The Pace five-point lead held true at 11-6 until the Ravens went on a 14-2 run fueled by their press, two Lipinski blocks, and three Holmes three-pointers to give the Ravens a 20-13 lead with 56 seconds left. DelliSanti brought the Pace deficit to five, 20-15 as the period concluded.

Holmes scored 15 of the Ravens 20 markers in the first quarter, going 6-of-7 from the floor and 3-of-3 from long range.

Pace regained the lead 25-22 using a 12-2 scoring binge. Sulejmani temporarily stopped the spurt hanging in the air and knocking down a layup in the restricted area to make the margin 22-21 Ravens. FPU sophomore guard Hannah Everidge (Baldwinville, Mass.) deadlocked the showdown 25-25 by draining a second chance three-ball at the top of the point when Cooney kept the possession alive for FPU. Following two freshman guard Rylee Skinner (Leominster, Mass.) freebies with 1:59 left to play, Pace tallied six straight points capped off by a DelliSanti right elbow pull-up to lead 37-31 at the intermission.

The Setters continued to tack points onto their advantage advancing their run to 11-0 to take their first double-digit lead of the game at 42-31 via a Monteleone attacking hoop and harm. Sulejmani broke a Raven scoreless stretch capitalizing on her own missed layup and putting the offensive board back up and in making it a single-digit deficit 42-33. Pace pushed in front by 16, 51-35 when Hackett knocked down a trifecta after a huge Lipinski stuff. The guests outscored the Ravens 22-to-six in the third quarter to take a 22 point, 59-37 advantage.

Sulejmani began the fourth with an and1 opportunity, but she missed the free throw making the margin 20, 59-39. Holmes cut into the lead sinking a jumper at the top of the circle dropping the FPU deficit to 18, 61-43. The teams swapped possessions and points back and forth until Skinner manufactured an old-fashioned three-point play to bring the score to 67-50. Behind by 20, 70-50 after a Stefanie Svoboda deep range three, the Ravens continued to attack coming within 16 points, 70-54 when Cooney knocked down 2-of-2 at the line before eventually falling.

The Ravens head back out on the road for a three-game road swing beginning this Saturday at the College of Saint Rose with tip-off slated for 1:30 p.m.
