This Franklin Pierce University women's basketball recap is presented by Belletetes

RINDGE, N.H. (November 14, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team opened their home schedule of games Wednesday evening suffering a 62-33 loss to Northeast-10 Conference opponent Saint Anselm College. With the victory, the Hawks remain unblemished at 3-0, 1-0 NE10 while the Ravens are still in search of their first win sitting at 0-3, 0-1 NE10 in the early stages of the campaign.

The contest was a turnover and fouled filled affair. Both squads combined for 56 turnovers and 50 fouls over the course of the four quarters. SAC totaled 24 points off the 29 Raven mistakes while FPU tallied 14 markers off the 27 Hawk turnovers. FPU could not find their shooting stroke on their home court as they drained only 19.6% (10-of-51) of their shot attempts.

Freshman guard Lisa Sulejmani (Burlington, Vt.) came off the bench and carried Pierce with a team-best eight points, six rebounds, and two steals. Sophomore forward Hannah Martin (Woodland Hills, Calif.) tallied five points, five boards and one steal across 18 minutes of play. The Raven reserves racked up 24 of the teams 33 points.

Three starters for Saint Anselm scored in double figures led by Shannon Ryan's 12 points and 13 rebound double-double. Teammate and guard Peyton Steinman produced a game-high 13 points, four rebound and three steals for the guests.

The Ravens fell into a 15-0 hole as the Hawks took the lead and would never look back. Sophomore guard Sophia Holmes (Oakland, Maine) put a halt to the Hawks fast start when Sulejmani dished off a sweet pass to Claudia Tucci (Trumbull, Conn.) at the elbow. Tucci made a quick feed to an open Holmes for a catch and shoot trey on the right win for the Ravens first points about seven minutes into the contest. Sulejmani came up huge on the defensive end when she poked the ball away from Eva Mazura and went uncontested to the rack for a fast break two points. Two Mya Mosley (Worcester, Mass.) freebies brought the Raven deficit to 12 points at the end of the quarter.

Scoring was hard to find for both teams in the second stanza as 14 total markers were put on the scoreboard. It was the Ravens and Hawks lowest scoring quarter of the showdown. Saint Anselm was 3-of-11 (27.3%) from the floor and Franklin Pierce made 2-of-12 (16.7%) of their shot attempts. The Hawks headed into halftime with a 31-13 advantage.

FPU sank their first two shots of the third quarter, a Mosley second-chance layup and a Hannah Everidge (Baldwinville, Mass.) right wing three-ball connection via a Demi Akins (Cambridge, Mass.) feed from under the basket. Grace Guachione gave the Hawks a 20-point advantage with 2:57 remaining in the third by converting an uncontested left driving lay-in. Guachione's points were part of an 18-4 scoring binge that carried on into the fourth quarter. The Hawks edge grew to a game-high 31 following two Emma Daly free throw conversions.

The Ravens remain on campus Friday when they take on non-conference opponent Nyack College at 5:30 p.m.
