SYRACUSE, N.Y. (January 6, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team began the 2018 portion of their schedule with a 69-44 setback to Northeast-10 Conference opponent Le Moyne College Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Court. With the win, the Dolphins ride the wave to 8-6 overall and 4-4 NE10 while the Ravens drop their ninth contest overall and seventh league game.

Freshman forward Claudia Tucci (Trumbull, Conn.) paced the Ravens attack with nine points on 4-of-7 (57.1%) shooting performance in 17 minutes off the bench. Starters Jemma Thacker (Nairne, South Australia) and Mya Mosley (Worcester, Mass.) chipped in eight points apiece while Thacker led all birds with four assists. Fellow starter Diondra Woumn (Lynn, Mass.) hauled in a team-high eight rebounds while coming up with two steals.

Three players scored in double figures for the Dolphins including junior guard Madison Purcell who dropped a game-best 16 points. Senior forward Corrinne Poitevien tallied 12 points in 22 minutes off the bench while teammate Ellie Leszyk dropped 11 points. Senior forward Joanna Dobrovosky was one point shy of a double-double as she recorded nine points and a career-best 10 assists.

Le Moyne started the game with five straight points as McKayla Roberts found Dobrovosky for a transition two. Following a missed layup, Purcell drained a trey as the hosts led 5-0. Woumn buried a jumper to give the Ravens their first points of the game, but McRoberts knocked down a second chance catch and shoot three to push the Phins lead to 8-2. Le Moyne continued their strong start as Leszyk drained a jumper to increase their edge to 10-2.

Raven freshman forward Freya Cooney (Woodbridge, England) split a pair of freebies to cut into the lead at 10-3, but the hosts rallied for 11 straight points to jump ahead 21-3. Demi Akins (Cambridge, Mass.) ended the Raven scoreless drought by knocking down one of two at the line as FPU headed into the second down 21-4. FPU could not buy a conversion from the field in the opening frame as they were 1-of-15 (6.7%) from the floor in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Dolphins notched a 9-2 mini-run, which was capped off by two Purcell freebies to give the hosts a 30-6 lead. Le Moyne kept using their bigs and attacked the Ravens in the post as they went into the intermission with a 40-14 advantage.

After two quarters of play, Le Moyne outshot the Ravens 50.0% to 19.2% and outproduced their counterparts in the paint 22-to-4.  

Le Moyne built their lead to a game-high 32 points following a Colleen Corcoran converted jump shot. In the fourth, FPU opened the period by pouring in 10 straight points, which cut the deficit to 17 following a Mosley steal and lay-in.

The Ravens remain away from campus on Wednesday, January 10th when they travel to NE10 opponent and no. 9 regionally-ranked Pace for a 5:30 p.m. duel.
