#3 Bentley Powers Past Franklin Pierce

WALTHAM, Mass. (November 29, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team headed out on the road to resume Northeast-10 Conference play versus no. 3 nationally-ranked Bentley University on Wednesday evening and fell to the Falcons 114-50 at the Dana Center. The setback snapped a three-game winning streak for the Crimson and Grey as they dropped to 4-4, 1-3 NE10 while the hosts stay unblemished at 7-0, 3-0 NE10.

Senior guard Jemma Thacker (Nairne, South Australia) paced the Ravens with 16 points, four rebounds, four steals, and two assists as she made 6-of-9 (66.7%) from the hardwood and 3-of-5 (60.0%) from three-point land. Freshman Demi Akins (Cambridge, Mass.) chipped in eight points, two boards, one assist and one block.

Every player scored for the Falcons as four of five starters scored in double-figures. They were led by Monica Viapiano who notched a double-double with a game-high 18 points and 10 boards in 19 minutes off the bench. Freshman forward Marissa Fontaine came off the pine and added 16 points on a perfect 6-of-6 (100.0%) shooting night.

Bentley began the game with a 10-0 scoring run. Junior center Victoria Lux tallied four straight points from the post via layups. Teammate Becca Musgrove followed by draining two at the charity stripe to push the lead to 6-0. Lauren Green drained a mid-range jumper from the left elbow and Lux converted another layup to push the edge to 10-0. Franklin Pierce promptly stopped play with a timeout.

Following the stoppage, Cassie Smith came up with a steal, which led to a Musgrove baseline jumper. Raven sophomore guard Mya Mosley (Worcester, Mass.) broke the scoring drought for the Ravens as she stole the ball away from Macchi Smith and went coast-to-coast for an uncontested layup. Nine consecutive points upped the host's edge to 21-2 until Thacker connected on a three-ball from the right wing to cut the deficit to 16, 21-5. After Thacker's conversion, Bentley rattled off 10 in a row capped off by a Fontaine three to increase their lead to 31-5. The Falcons advantage skied to 30 until Freya Cooney (Woodbridge, England) drained a jumper to end the quarter as the Ravens trailed 40-12.

Bentley shot 16-of-22 (72.7%) from the floor in the first quarter including a 6-for-10 (60.0%) showing from deep. Their defense forced 10 Raven miscues and they scored 18 points off those errors.

Freshman guard Sophia Holmes (Oakland, Maine) brought the Raven deficit below 30 with 5:36 left in the second as she hit a shot from downtown off an inbounds play as FPU trailed 49-20. Two Smith freebies gave the Falcons their largest lead of the first half at 63-26, but Thacker floated home a runner at the buzzer, as the score was 63-28 at halftime.

The Ravens remain away from Rindge as they travel to Stonehill College on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. tip-off.
