Raven Basketball Announces Two Commits to Recruiting Class

RINDGE, N.H. (April 20, 2017) – Franklin Pierce University women's basketball head coach Jeanette Wedo is proud to announce two more signees for the programs 2017-18 season.

Sophie Holmes (Oakland, Maine.) and Freya Cooney (Ipswich, England) will join early signees Hannah Everidge (Wachusett, Mass.) and Hannah Martin (Calabasas, Calif.) on Coach Wedo's first recruiting class at Franklin Pierce.

"Sophie is a versatile three-point threat who brings a hard-nosed work ethic, said Coach Wedo, and Freya is a mobile forward who can run the floor and shoot the three." "We are excited to have them be a part of the Raven family!"

Holmes, a 5-8 guard, played hoops at Messalonskee High School. She averaged 20 points and nine rebounds a game while racking up 1,389 career points and 750 career boards. A decorated player, Holmes was a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference (KVAC) First Team selection her junior year and was chosen to the All-State Second Team. She collected even more accolades in her senior season as she garnered the KVAC Player of the Year award, was the Morning Sentinel Girls Basketball Player of the Year, a Top Three Finalist for Miss Maine Basketball and was picked for the All-State First Team.

Cooney, a 6-2 forward from across the pond, competed for the Ipswich Basketball Academy. Cooney was part of the England U18 National Team in 2016 and 2017. During her senior year in the Women's Elite Academy Basketball League (WEABL), Cooney averaged 12.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
