Yellow Jackets Sting Ravens

RINDGE, N.H (January 11, 2017) – Three starters scored in double-figures for American International College as the Yellow Jackets beat host Franklin Pierce University by a 76-49 score on Wednesday evening in The Fieldhouse. The win moves AIC to 12-5, 7-2 NE10 and the loss drops the Ravens to 2-12, 0-9 NE10.

FPU junior guard Jemma Thacker (Nairne, South Australia) filled up the stat sheet with seven points, a game-high nine boards, three steals and two blocks while leading the Ravens with three helpers. Dana Campbell (Merrick, N.Y.) tallied a team-best 11 points on a 4-of-6 (66.7%) shooting night. Mikayla Deguire (Watervilet, N.Y.) added eight markers and two thefts while teammate Cameryn Wilson (Newport News, Va.) scored eight points off the bench.

Yellow Jacket forward Dana Watts led all scorers with 20 points and chipped in a team-high eight caroms to go along with three steals, two blocks and an assist. Imani Stepney poured in 15 points and snagged seven boards. Destine Perry chalked up 13 points in 21 minutes off the bench in the victory.

Deguire opened up the scoring as she received a feed from Thacker and banked a layup off the glass for the first points of the contest. On the next Pierce possession, Sarah Middleton (Barrington, R.I.) picked up the pace with a fast break and drove through the right side of the paint for an easy two which put FPU ahead 4-0, 40 seconds into the game. Watts answered by posting up in the low post for a second chance bucket as the Yellow Jackets cracked the scoring column.

The point trading continued as Alison Palma (Stamford, Conn.) found a trailing Campbell who drained a trey from the right wing that gave the Ravens their largest lead of the contest at 7-2. Over the next few minutes of the stanza, the guests used a 15-0 scoring binge which turned a five point deficit into a 10 point, 17-7 advantage. Kelsey Mayo (Oakland, Maine) ended the run by teaming up with Wilson for a pick and roll in the paint which brought the AIC lead to single figures. When the buzzer sounded to end the quarter FPU trailed by 10, 22-12.

AIC began the second quarter as Perry stripped the rock away from Middleton then proceeded to go coast to coast for the easy lay-in and was fouled in the process. Perry hit the freebie and completed the three-point play to put her team ahead 13, 25-12.

FPU however was outscored 23-5 over the second period and headed into the intermission down 45-17. In the second half the Ravens actually outscored the Yellow Jackets by a point, 32-31, but AIC left Rindge with the victory.

The Ravens head out on the road on Saturday when they head to the College of Saint Rose for a 1:30 p.m. showdown with the Golden Knights.
