#20 Queens (N.Y.) Bests Franklin Pierce 60-52

RINDGE, N.H. (December 17, 2016) – Freshman guard Cameryn Wilson (Newport News, Va.) scored 13 points and dished out a team-high four assists as the Franklin Pierce women's basketball team suffered a 60-52 setback at the hands of no. 20 nationally-ranked Queens (N.Y.) College on a snowy Saturday afternoon in the Fieldhouse. With the win, the Knights gallop to 9-3 overall and the loss sends FPU to 2-9.

Wilson also came up with a team-best three steals while snagging two caroms. Teammate Dana Campbell (Merrick, N.Y.) led the Ravens in scoring with 14 markers on a 4-of-8 (50.0%) shooting performance.

Knights senior forward MacKenzie Rowland tallied a game-high 19 points and 15 rebounds en route to a double-double. Rowland added four blocks, three steals and two assists to her stat-line. Freshman Beth Bonin matched her teammates double-double with one of her own as she racked up 11 points and 12 boards from the guard position.

The Ravens started the game scoring six consecutive points with the opening bucket coming off a Wilson steal and coast to coast lay-in. After a few points from the guests, Campbell put her squad ahead by seven by burying a three-ball from the wing off a feed from Wilson.

Two possessions later, Alison Palma (Stamford, Conn.) cleaned up a missed three pointer by Campbell and put the rebound up and in which gave the Ravens their largest lead of the contest at 13-5 with 4:56 to go. An 11-4 Knight run put the guests within one point at the end of the quarter after Rowland converted a layup. Franklin Pierce held a 17-16 lead after the first quarter.

In the second stanza, Queens outscored Franklin Pierce 21-4 to take a 16 point, 37-21 halftime lead after Emer Moloney's jumper at the buzzer.

The Ravens shot only 8-of-32 (25.0%) from the floor during the first half including a 2-of-15 (13.3%) showing during the second quarter. Queens put in 13-of-29 (44.8%) of their field goal attempts.

Rowland put her team ahead by a game-high 18 points at the 7:50 mark when she sank a jumper. With under two minutes to play, Pierce began to slowly chip into the lead. Wilson sliced through the paint from the high post for two and on the next Raven possession, Jemma Thacker (Nairne, South Australia) drained a long range attempt from the left wing to put her team down 11, 47-36 at the end of the third.

Sophomore guard Sarah Middleton (Barrington, R.I.) brought the deficit to single figures as she stole the rock from Rowland and drove the floor for the fast break layup. Mooney and Dah'Vielle Lucas scored two points each to put their team up 13. Six in a row by the Raves put the hosts down only seven with 3:16 left in the contest.

Two Melissa Fumano freebies brought the lead back to nine, until Campbell found Palma roaming free underneath the hoop for two points. Campbell knocked down two attempts from the charity stripe with 1:37 left which made it a two possession game. Rowland then cleaned up her own missed shot and banked the offensive carom high off the glass to push the lead back to seven.

Campbell earned a trip back to the line and converted both free throws to bring the deficit back down to five, but Pierce couldn't get a stop down the stretch as the Knights added three more points from freebies to take the duel by a 60-52 score.

The Ravens return to the hardwood on Friday, December 30th with their last non-conference contest of the 2016-17 campaign against Bloomfield at 1:00 p.m.
