Women's Basketball Rolls Past Saint Anselm 80-72

RINDGE, N.H. (February 14, 2015) –Graduate student Jessica Hurd ( Kegworth, England) had her seventh double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds to aide in the 80-72 victory in Saturday afternoons Northeast-10 Conference contest against Saint Anselm. Four Ravens were also in double figures at the Fieldhouse, while this marks Hurd's third consecutive double-double. 

With the win, Franklin Pierce advances to 14-8 and 11-7 in the Northeast-10, while Saint Anselm slides to 7-16 and 5-13 in conference play.

The lead changed six times within the first five minutes with the Hawks gaining control by 14:38 in the first half, 12-10. However, by 7:52 a three pointer by graduate student Kate McDonald (Fall River, Mass.) would give the Ravens control of the game.

Sophomore Caitlyn Abela would briefly tie the game with a jumper at 5:40, but Hurd would net a jumper to bring the advantage to the Ravens for the remainder of the game.

The teams headed to the locker room with the Ravens leading by nine, 44-35. Junior Kara Charette (Fairhaven, Mass.) scored 15 points with four rebounds, while sophomore Candace Andrews posted 12.

By 19:08 the Ravens led by 14, 49-35, but Saint Anselm would start chipping away at the lead and by 15:29 they trailed by five, 49-44.

Sophomore Jasmyne Fogel  (Stamford, Conn.) went on a six point rally to give the Ravens an 11 point advantage by 11:14.

With 4:41 left in the game, freshman Ali Glennon would net a three to bring the game within three points, 66-63. Hurd and Charette would increase the Raven lead to seven with back to back layups, but a pair free throws by freshman Ali Glennon would make it a two point game by 2:17, 70-68

McDonald's set of free throws gave the Ravens a six point lead with just over a minute left in the game, but Andrews would answer back with 47 seconds left with a jumper to bring the score to 74-70. Junior Natalie Bastian (Branford, Conn.) sunk both of her free throws, but Andrews would net a layup seconds later to keep the game within four points.

With just under 30 seconds to go, Hurd would sink back to back sets of free throws to end the game with an 80-72 Raven victory.

Ali Glennon had a game high of 24 points with 4 rebounds, while Candace Andrews had 18 points with 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Caitlyn Abela posted 13 points and grabbed 8 rebounds with 2 assists and sophomore Kaila Duarte had 11 points with 6 rebounds.

Jessica Hurd had 23 points with 10 rebounds for her seventh double-double, while adding 4 assists and 1 block. Kara Charette had 21 points with 8 rebounds and 3 assists, Natalie Bastian had 10 points and 3 rebounds and Jasmyne Fogel also had 10 points with 1 rebound and 1 assist.

The Ravens hit the road to take on New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) on Monday at 1:00 pm in a non-conference contest.
