Women's Basketball Falls to Saint Michael's, 72-56

CLOCHESTER, Vt. (February 4, 2015) – Although three were in double digits, the Franklin Pierce Women's Basketball team fell 72-56 to Saint Michael's College on Wednesday evening at the Ross Sports Center. Sophomore Alison Palma (Stamford, Conn.) hit a season high of 16 points. 

With the loss, the Ravens drop 11-7 overall, and 9-6 in Northeast-10 play, while Saint Michael's advances to 9-11 overall, and 4-11 in Conference play.

The Ravens had a 10 point advantage by the 16 minute mark in the first half, 12-2, but the Purple Knights began a rally to cut the advantage by 14:51.

A three pointer by sophomore Indira Evora with just under 10 minutes to play gave Saint Michael's the lead for the first time in the game, 17-16. Graduate student Jessica Hurd (Kegworth, England) regained the lead for the Ravens with her layup at 7:28 to play in the half.

Junior Mackenize Burud took the lead back with a layup at 5:22 in the first, but junior Dyamond Gardner (Cambridge, Mass.) sunk a free throw to tie up the game 23-23 less than a minute later. Evora would take back the lead and start a rally for the rest of the half for the Purple Knights. By halftime, the Purple Knights led 32-25.

The Ravens began to cut into the 12 point advantage held by the Purple Knights with 12:11 left in the game started by  Palma and ended with a three pointer by Hurd at 10:10 to bring the game within six, 50-44. Gardner's layup at 7:17 brought the game within two points, 52-50, which would be the closest the Ravens would get to taking back the lead. The Purple Knights took the 72-56 victory. 

Indira Evora led the game with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Senior Maggie Sabine had 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, senior Kelly Frappier added 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, with Makenzie Burud had 14 points with 7 rebounds.

Alison Palma had 16 points with 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block. Jessica Hurd had 15 points with 5 rebounds, and graduate student Kate McDonald (Fall River, Mass.) added 10 points with 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals.

The Ravens hit the road to take on Assumption Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm in Northeast -10 Conference play.
