Women's Basketball Victorious Over AIC, 68-61

RINDGE, NH (January 7, 2015)- Graduate student Jessica Hurd (Kegworth, England) posted a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds in Wednesday night's contest against American International College (AIC) at the Fieldhouse. Three other Ravens were also in double figures in the 68-61 victory, including junior Kara Charette (Fairhaven, Mass.) with 21 points.

The victory moves the Ravens to 6-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play, with an 8-3 overall record, while AIC falls to 7-8, having a 2-5 record in Northeast-10 Conference play.

Starting out strong, AIC remained in the lead until Hurd's layup at 9:39 in the first half tied the game 15-15. However, the Raven lead would be short-lived with a three-pointer by junior Brianna Bishop at 7:03 in the half, 20-17. The half would finish with AIC leading by three, 31-28.

The Ravens cut the deficit to one point by 17:16, but AIC would answer back with a three-pointer by senior Alyssa Roach. Junior Dyamond Gardner (Cambridge, Mass.) would tie the game up minutes later 39-39 with just over 15 to play.

AIC would hold a steady lead over the Ravens until freshman Jemma Thacker (Aldgate, Australia) netted a three giving the Ravens a one point lead. Roach would tie the game up seconds later with a free throw. Following her free throw, Roach would score a layup giving AIC the advantage by 10:28.

The game would be tied up once again with 7:42 on the clock with a free throw by Hurd, but Bishop would take the lead back for AIC with a layup, 49-47.

With 5:20 to play, the game was tied up 51-51 with free throws by Gardner. A jumper by Charette right after would give the Ravens the lead for the first time since 8:47 in the first half; Roach would once again tie up the game at 4:03, 53-53.

Gardner's layup at 3:20 would secure the lead for the Ravens for the remainder of the game, giving the Ravens a 68-61 victory.

Alyssa Roach was game high scorer with 23 points with four rebounds. Senior Krista Ferrentino and Brianna Bishop each had 11 points, with nine rebounds for Ferrentino and six assists for Bishop.

Jessica Hurd would post a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds- with 10 of those rebounds in the second half. Kara Charette added 21 points with four rebounds. Dyamond Gardner added 14 points with four assists, followed by junior Natalie Bastian (Branford, Conn.) with 11 points.

On Saturday, the Ravens travel to Albany, N.Y. to face Saint Rose for a 1:30pm Northeast-10 Conference matchup at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
